Looking at purchasing the
IPC-HDW5831R-ZE. After something in Australian dollars. Just wondered if anyone has had any experiences with this Aliexpress seller? From what I can see the listing and feedback look reasonable.

Haven’t seen anyone post about them.

The forum here has a very reputable vendor to buy Dahua from, Andy (@EMPIRETECANDY). Like Megaccess (based on the link you posted), one of the ways Andy sells is an AliExpress store so currency should be handled the same as Megaccess. He can also invoice directly if you email him.

Andy’s prices are a tad higher because they include faster DHL shipping by default... cheaper listings from other vendors usually ship via ePacket which can take much longer. You can email or start a forum Conversation (click on @EMPIRETECANDY to see his profile) with him if shipping speed isn’t important to you, he can sometimes ship via ePacket and reduce the price.

Camera-wise, if you can use a bullet style, Dahua’s 4K (8MP) 1831/2831 models have better low-light image quality because they use a newer and bigger image sensor. They don’t do quite as well in low light as the popular 5231 models, but they’re close and a lot better than the 5831.

The link you posted was on AliExpress which usually shows in the price in the local currency of the person viewing. When I look at the link you left in your first post, it shows me the price in US dollar, not Australian dollars. If you click on the link I left in post #2 (the last one), it should show you the price in Australian dollars.

As for Dahua branding, it's pretty unusual (but not impossible) to get a camera for that price and have it come with the Dahua branding. If the branding is important to you, definitely confirm with Megaccess that it will come that way. Many AliExpress vendors will use generic pictures that include the Dahua logo even though what they sell is the OEM version that doesn't come branded. Andy can get either OEM (not branded) or Dahua branded, just let him know. Dahua branded is usually more expensive. OEM (not branded) versions operate exactly the same way as Dahua branded, there's no difference in the hardware other than it doesn't have the Dahua logo on it. You can also install the Dahua branded firmware on the OEM (not branded) hardware if you want. That will restore the Dahua logo to the web interface, but that's about the only difference.

That's what I thought originally too, I did go thru to checkout stage and it does still appear to be in AUD. I'll need to confirm.

That link in the first post, does show in AUD for me.

I did send them a message clarifying a couple of things, but I do appreciate that info and everyone's advice here.

Mate try pricing Andy directly. He'll give you prices in US$, then check the day's exchange rates to AU$ and make payment if you are happy with the end price.

I didn't cop any conversion fees when I paid via PayPal using a credit card. Aside from this I can't see any other reason to chase sales in local currency. Maybe I've missed something...

Cheers, Steve
