I ordered a NVR from Andy. Cant seem to get the support I need from him. I ordered the NVR and plug it into my router. The net light doesnt come on. Cant connect my phone to the NVR either.(guessing net light means internet) What am I missing?

Is the NVR on the correct network segment? Dahua devices come defaulted to 192.168.1.108 - I would set your recorder to DHCP and do a reboot, should grab the correct address from your router.

Looking at mine now and it is connected but the net light is the only one out. Do you have a laptop you can work with?
If so, set up the NIC on your laptop (or PC) to be static IP 192.168.1.100, subnet 255.255.255.0 and connect a cable directly from your NIC to the NVR NIC. (your NIC should auto configure as a crossover, if it's old and doesn't you'll need a switch in between the PC and the NVR)
Ping 192.168.1.108 and see if you get a reply. If you do, browse to that address and change the NVR IP to DHCP or set it to a static address consistent with your network.

That does not even sound correct, you should have access to those controls, Is the Account you are using to log on to the NVR have administrator rights? Or Network rights. Check your account under system and make sure everything is checked, usually by default it is but you never know.

Another way to do it if it won't dhcp which I've never seen happen, very simple just access your router and see what range it is assigning go back to recorder copy to network config ip/subnet/gateway. Also don't forget to double check if your ethernet cable is good.

I will have to check again tomorrow. I log in under admin. What’s a subnet? Also don’t know what a nic is either

Subnet basically holds all the ip ranges to keep it simple, a nic is a network interface card.
