Hi,

I've set up my new components which include a DS-7716NI-I4 / 16P, 3x DS-2CD2645FWD-IZS bullets and 1x DS-2CD2H45FWD-IZS turret (for now). Everything seems to be working well, however there is one problem with live view.

I am able to view all cameras and playback streams directly from the NVR web interface within the latest Google Chrome web browser, however, when I want to manage my cameras using the virtual host function of the NVR, and I log into each camera a small window appears in the corner saying "Live View Failed". The Playback and Picture headings are also missing and I'm unable to adjust any video or event settings because the preview is missing in the boxes.

The NVR has firmware V4.21.008 build 190625 and the cameras are V5.6.0 build 190507 which I believe are the latest, they are also official cameras bought through a well known US dealer. I understand that these latest firmwares support plug-in free playback and the Websocket functionality is activated on all cameras.

On Windows 10 the same problem manifested before I installed the LocalServiceComponents.exe plugin, after which it started working, however, this is not exactly plug-in free and I can't install this on Linux. I also mostly have Linux computers and would prefer to get it working on Linux, especially since it should be supported and the LocalServiceComponents.exe is optional (unless I'm misunderstanding plugin-free playback).

I'm assuming live view should work on Linux Chrome since it does in the NVR web interface and I presume the underlying technology is the same for the cameras, therefore I am hoping someone will help me figure this out as it seems like an obscure bug.

Normally you should use NVR for live view/playback and all the basic settings (motion detection, event settings, recording setup, etc). Virtual server option (i.e. accessing the camera web page) is intended only for a camera settings which are "hidden" for the NVR itself. Such settings are the camera sensor settings (day/night mode, shutter speed, WDR mode). Once you set those settings in the camera I don't see a reason to access the camera web page anymore.

Thank You for getting back to me.

Logically, I cannot argue with you, it's not that big of a deal as I can use Windows to make those initial changes and then leave it. However, I would love to get to the bottom of why this is the case only with the camera page and not the NVR page which appears to be mostly the same layout.

I'm wondering if there is some issue with my setup or if this is universally experienced by everyone who doesn't install the LocalServiceComponents.exe plugin. As I mentioned before, even the latest datasheets for these cameras mention plugin-free playback on chrome and firefox, so unless I'm misunderstanding plugin free playback, it should probably work.

I'd love to hear of other people's experience with this.

Not sure if this will help, I mostly use Ubuntu Desktop Gnome version Linux and currently use Basilisk or Pale Moon via Wine to interact with my Hikvision NVR. I've got Live View and able to configure individually each of my 4 Hikvision cameras, you will need to install the plugin when asked to view the video streams. I've got one Dahua camera on ONVIF so far, which works with the Hikvision NVR but I'm not able to use the Hikvision NVR's virtual host feature to access the Dahua camera's configuration. I've got a thought that I was able in the past but have lost this ability, perhaps after a Hikvision NVR firmware update?

Don't take all this to mean that I am not going to use Blue Iris or the Raspberry Pi around the house, it's all planned.

Finally my thanks to ipcamtalk for all the help that's available from the folk on here, thanks.

Most likely web browser security.
You need a plugin which is not supported by Most browsers.

Use Internet explorer 11 or Palemoon browsers.
