I can't quite figure out how to get a good online backup strategy in Blue Iris working.

What I want to do is periodically backup the Blue Iris clips to a NAS. Ideally as soon as a clip wraps, but once a day is fine.

I kind'a have it working - under "New", i have "Limit clip age" set to "3 days", and then it does "Move to folder / Stored". The NAS is set up under Stored.

This works from a backup perspective - the NAS gets the clip after 3 days, except that Blue Iris only seems to WRITE to that folder - it never READS from it. So after 3 days, I can no longer access the clip in the UI, even though Blue Iris knows where they are.

Is there any way to fix this? Currently Blue Iris connects to the NAS using an SMB share, but I can set it up as iSCSI if that will solve the problem.

I have used a NAS for the stored folder and BI could read the file just fine. Is the BI program running under the correct user and permissions to read the file. How are your trying to read the file. When using a NAS the file security is the primary problem for errors.

I have the Blue Iris service set to run as a specific local user, then gave that user permission to the NAS. It can write to the NAS just fine using those credentials. And the local user that the console is logged in can read from the NAS just fine. (I can directly open the files in Blue Iris by double clicking on them).

I'm not sure if the console goes through the service to fetch files, or if it reads them directly. Either way, both those users have permission.

I have a Blue Iris PC with SSD and HDD. New, alerts and db are on the SSD. Older files get moved to HDD.
This gives me about a week of storage on the SSD.

I have a synology NAS on another location, and use the Synology Cloud Station Backup to backup the SSD Blue Iris data to the NAS. This also includes the Blue Iris Settings/backups.

The SSD might fail, but I have a backup of the data.
The HDD might fail, and I will just lose the data. It is a risk, but it is mostly older data.
