My owls are nesting again this winter. I replaced my cat 5 cable with cat 8 with hopes of the camera staying on line but for some reason after about thirty minutes I can't get into the Smart PSS or the Config tool program. It shows the camera as being off line even though I can still watch it on my web page. The only way I can get the camera back online is to unplug the cable a few seconds. I sure with there was a app or setting in the program that would auto reboot to get the camera back on line. When I can't get into the settings I can't control the camera.
If any one can tell me how to remedy this issue I'd really appreciate any input. I have 38 days of incubation period and 10 weeks of the parents feeding the owlets.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Here's a link from last winter. This was the last day when the owlet fledged successfully after falling from the nest

Hello, I'm not sure I explained my problem correctly above. I have my camera viewable thru ipcamlive and there isn't an issue. The camera runs fine without going offline. My problem is the smart PSS program I am using which is version 2.002.0000007.0 10-23-18 shows the camera as off line within 15 minutes of plugging in my cat 8 cable to the TP-link 5 port switch- (TL-SG105) My config tool 4.09.0 shows no camera found as well after 15 or so minutes. My Dahua camera is model DH-SD49225T-HN. Since my camera is working with ipcamlive but not in the two programs I am using, wouldn't the issue be with the programs? Would it help to get a newer version of these to programs? This has been really frustrating to not be able to make any adjustments with the live view unless I unplug the cable for a few seconds and wait for the camera to reboot which seems to take close to 10 minutes before I can open either program and see the camera. Here is what I see now in both programs.
THanks in advance for your help. Here's the link to my cam on my website- Okie BirdCam - Great Horned Owl

How exactly are you supplying power to the camera?
How long is the cable to the camera?
Did you use solid copper cable and not copper clad aluminum?
That switch is not a POE switch.
Cat 8 was way over kill.
Did you make the cable? Did you use the 568b standard?

Does not sound like a hardware (cam, cable, ps) issue, since the feed is working in ipcamlive. I assume a ping to it's IP will also respond.
Maybe a different stream sent to ipcamive vs. the other programs?
HOWEVER, CAT8 cable distance maxes out a 30m (not 100m as in CAT6 & CAT7). And it also is a shielded cable - are you using shielded RJ45s?
Another diff in CAT8 is that it has a 2-connector channel, CAT6 & 7 has a 4-connector channel.

Thanks for the reply. I can tell you this much so far. There is no wifi involved. And I was mistaken on the cat8, I bought cat 7. Here's a copy and paste
CAT-7 Ethernet Cable 100 Feet - High Speed Flat Internet Network Computer Patch Cord - Faster Than Cat6 Cat5e Lan Wire, Shielded RJ45 Connectors for Router, Modem, Xbox, Printer - White
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BH4344C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I might'a got by with 75' but I'd be cutting it close. So is the type of cable the issue?
Thank you for the replies! My friend was going to install Pale Moon and see if she could get into either program that way. I have not been home and spoken to her since I rebooted for her yesterday. I use chrome and IE. If I can access them with another browser that would be great. I don't have any app installed on my phone. What do you guys suggest?
I will ask my friend about the Ping thing :) Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I forgot to say that the camera is plugged into an outlet in the attic. The cable runs straight from the camera to the tp-link switch. I don't have a nvr or dvr that I assume would complicate my problem. Terri PS I guess I used the wrong term earlier. I did not reboot the camera, I disconnected and reconnected the cat 7 from the network. She said with Pale Moon she can get into the interface but she only sees a black screen.
Any other suggestions are welcome. Thank you! Terri

You still have not clarified how exactly you are powering the camera.
That cable is not an ideal choice, the flat cables don't work well and should be avoided.
I'd suggest this cable: Monoprice Entegrade Cat6 Ethernet Patch Cable - Snagless RJ45, 550Mhz, UTP, CMP, Plenum, Pure Bare Copper Wire, 23AWG, 10ft, Blue - Monoprice.com
Although, you should purchase a cable that is outdoor rated.

Terri, I used the OWL ipcamlive link in your first post. Click on arrow on left side. View the 2-05-2020 timelapse video. It's kind of suprising at 14:00:00. Your camera clock appears to be off 12 hours. Also, if you have a chromecast, the video looks great on a big screen TV if you click icon on screen upper left. Hope you solved your camera PC problems.
