Okay so I have some nice larger turret cameras have worked out great. But for a certain installation point between attic vent boards, I wanted a much smaller camera. Didn't need to have IR lights so this seemed to fit the bill. Product link (which supposedly had good reviews): US $25.5 12% OFF|Mini HD Audio POE IP Camera CCTV AI 2MP 1080p SONY IMX307 Black light Low XMeye ONVIF H.265|Surveillance Cameras| | - AliExpress

But upon receiving it even though the instructions were in English when I went to the default IP the login menu was in Chinese. First warning sign, LOL. Worse yet it seems like none of the functions worked when I logged in and it was prompting me to downgrade to an older browser. Trying to load in IE it wanted me to get some proprietary ActiveX control from a site that my browser said it was a security risk so I didn't trust that or try it.

Normally I like to have custom set IP addresses on my cameras and passwords with this one I wasn't able to set a password because as I said the web interface just wouldn't work without some sketchy executables. It did come with a CD, which included some software which allows you to change the IP so I figured what the heck I created a system restore point, installed it and it was able to change the IP. still wasn't able to set a password but I wanted to see if it worked in blue Iris so I tried to add it and initially it seemed like it was going to work but then the video stream dropped with total regularity and it would only show a still frame every few seconds.

This is unfortunate because it seemed like the hardware was actually pretty well made, at least it felt like solid, and it even had a protective cap for the optional power supply line, something I haven't seen on most cameras.

so if anyone happens to know any settings that will make this work in blue Iris please let me know I did the auto scan and tried to use that as well as some manual generic stuff but nothing except for the auto scan setting seem to work at all and those only work to give me about 1 frame every 5 or 10 seconds at first, then after a while it was streaming better but totally blurry I think it might just be junk? Unless some miracle settings can save it.

OR if anyone has a better small camera with similar specs to recommend if I can't get this one working, with menus in English that actually work, let me know, thanks.

I've seen that before and it was trying to get them from the camera's firmware, not the internet. Try making sure you are not connected to the internet and see if it will download.

No, in this case it definitely was trying to connect to the internet. But, in any case, I'm not going to be installing custom things just for this cheap camera. More just wondering if anyone else got it to work with Blue Iris with different settings, or if someone has another camera recommendation.

Are you sure it gets the plugin from Internet?
For example, Foscam camera also have the plugin in the firmware, and when you open the local http link, it will asks you to install the plugin.

Yeah, in IE only it says, "Please install IE ActiveX: IE_Plugins.exe from CD or download from internet".
The site it is trying to download from is xmsecu.com which seems to be a risky site, according to my browser or addons.
Chrome and Firefox don't ask for that, they show an alert in Chrome saying "Your browser is too new,Some features will not work properly. Please download 51.0 or earlier." It also has a login menu in Chinese, but if you log into that, you just see 4 total clickable items, one of them logs you out, one gives version info and the remaining two do nothing.

EDIT: Normally I never use IE11 cause it sucks, but was just checking to see if it would work in there, since I don't want to downgrade my browsers, not sure how much of a security risk that is? Seems like they could use old exploits on older browsers so I was wary of doing that. Restored to my old system restore point after changing the camera's IP address using the CD app it came with.

Google for XMeye or XiongMai cameras . . . lots of info on them.
There's a huge thread on it here from three years ago.
Most of what I am finding is talking about security risks, LOL. Maybe I will call this one a loss and buy something more reputable next time... but I ain't trashing it yet so if anyone knows settings it will work with let me know.

My first order to AliExpress for this type of mini boards camera include the XMeye app. I will never buy again any product using XMeye. Instead, I will recommend boards using CamHi app. My experience is with 2MP mini cam
