Yeah, we got gas to ride around and probably money for smokes, etc. but we have to steal from someone trying to earn a honest living in trying times.

I'd donate the lumber to build the gallows for the public hanging @fenderman mentioned.

@#$% cockroaches. No, wait......that's not fair to the cockroaches, at least they're doing what they're supposed to be doing. These types are just a blight on humanity...not unlike dog crap you step on and it gets on the bottom of your shoe. Yeah, they're dog crap, in my book. Not even worth a hollow point to the head.

Did I mention I detest thieves?

Seems like you have the license plate, Report it to cops but again In California Anything below $950 I think is not even a felony .. Thanks to our laws these criminals have no fear .. What were the voters thinking .. really.. and the idiots who even had these kind of laws on the ballot box to begin with..

It was reported to the police and they came out. The problem is my gardener does not want to press charges or as he said, "he does not want to see them go to jail". He valued the blower at $700.

Yea it is still under $700 even if he press charges it be consider a petty theft.
Unfortunately.

California law defines petty theft as the theft of any property with a value of $950 or less. Most petty thefts are charged as misdemeanors. Petty theft is a misdemeanor if the theft is a result of the shoplifting offense and the offender has no prior criminal record, or if the value of the stolen property is $950 or less. A misdemeanor conviction for petty theft in California carries a sentence of up to six months in county jail, a fine of no more than $1,000, or both. (Cal. Pen. Code, § 490.) However, if the property has a value of $50 or less, the prosecutor can charge the offense as an infraction, so long as the offender has had no other theft-related conviction. Petty theft charged as an infraction is punishable by a fine of no more than $250.

Did the police even want a copy of the video so that they at least have the degenerates on file with the license plate and some type of description of two of them? They are going to do this again. Like fenderman said something doesn't add up. Why would you not want to press charges, when your going to have to go and get another blower for your job. SMH

Man that sucks.

Post online the best pictures as many places as possible with the license plate and car ID in text so it can be searched.

Neighbors, Facebook, blog, etc...

They did at first. I told them to give me at least an hour to edit and download the video. I also wanted to review my other cameras to see if I missed anything. I called back to say the video was ready for pickup and they said the gardener did not want to press charges. They did say to hold on to it which I have. I also posted this on my Nextdoor site. By the way in my opinion these guys were driving around looking for something to steal.

Edit: The officer did come in the house and review the video.

That's good, they came in to see the video, i let them do that at my place as well. I always edit and have it on a flash drive for them before i call them. It's good that you put it on nextdoor at least.

sorry this happened. we had 3 burglars hit 5 cars a few weeks ago across the street and next door. they literally parked their car right in front of my driveway and my 5241 didnt catch the plate, you have no idea how pissed off I was, and still am. i literally can't dial this cam in. the focus changes every time it switches and sometimes in the middle of the night.

Here even if they make it to a felony, $1,000 in MN, they usually just get pobation. Police here love to catch people like this and get them charged but then it gets reduced down in court for a multitude of reasons. So frustrating for the victim and the officers who put the work into track people like this down.

I seen some pretty amazon videos on this forum. If you don't mind could you share the Camera and Model # that you recorded the shots above and perhaps the mounting location also?. Thanks for sharing

The camera showing the truck is a Dahua IPC-B5442E-ZE 4MP . The camera showing the U-turn is a Dahua IPC-B5442E-Z4E 4MP. Both are mounted about 8 feet above the ground.

Immigration status?
It could be that but it's just as likely a fear of getting involved with the police at all. While I don't KNOW the gardner is hispanic, I'd say its common to find that they are. Many in the hispanic communities are just leery of getting involved with the police at all. I'm kind of disappointed to see that he's unwilling to press charges although I really don't have confidence that it would ever get to the point of charging anyone. Something "petty" like this generally doesn't receive any action from the police. When my mower was stolen from my garage (wife was inside for 10mins), the police simply said "that's what you have insurance for" and refused to even do any paperwork. That was 10yrs ago that happened and for the 3yrs or so following it, whenever I saw some amateur lawn crew working in the area with the same model craftsman mower I had stolen, I would always stop my truck and walk right up to the mower and compare the serial number that I had recorded. I was determined that if I ever found it, I would simply take it back.

something positive, I have to commend him for his camera quality. I could only wish mine were that good. (I think I'll add my camera models to my profile page in case anyone is ever curious)
