First of all huge thanks to thejaybo, great work on making these cams usable.

I was able to open up a SWNHD-886MSD in a similar manner.
It is currently $119 at frys which I think is a good deal. Its a 4k cam. It does 4k at 15fps
Fry's Electronics |

The firmware version was identical V4.1.3.6_171220

I Started with the above procedure but the password did not work.
So the one that did work was
user:admin
password:*MAC ADDRESS IN ALL CAPS NO SPACES"
But in the state it was I could not get the RTSP stream working. The user/password combination lets you into the router but doesn't work for the stream.
The web access portal doesn't let you change the password for some reason.

Finally I found this page and tool:
7450/8580 Camera Configuration
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uvlxhtc4x2hj5wt/AABRV6cRep0CLiug90qa0DvOa/HomeSafe View/HomeSafeView_Device_Config_Tool_1.0.0.10_2016_05_20_147.exe?dl=1

The tool allows you change the admin password to something normal, after that the new password works for the stream as well.
So not sure you need the mac address at all.

I think the procedure can be as follows below, Unfortunately i was fighting the cam for a while so I did a bunch of extra stuff like resetting it to factory defaults, but i have a second one to verify this procedure with.
Here it is for now, I will verify and update as needed.

1. Get a windows pc with an ethernet port.
2. Disconnect it from the network and set the IP v4 settings for your network adapter to "Use the following IP address", IP address 172.16.1.149 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
3. Next connect the camera and the PC into a POE switch (make sure nothing else is connected to it). Can be regular switch if camera gets power another way.
4. Use the HomeSafeView_Device_Config to set the password.
5. Using the IP you see in HomeSafeView_Device_Config, from the pc connect to the camera VIA Internet Explorer (Not Edge), it will ask for a plugin install. So if the ip is 172.16.1.154 go to and log into the camera.
6. Once in you can modify the ip setting to work with your router.

HomeSafeView works for viewing the camera from PC or iPhone directly, but i think this camera is best if used with blue iris or some other NVR software, this way you are not locked into Swann NVR. I am going to try to use it with Synology surveillance center.

Hi. Ive followed this to no avail. After i change th ipv4 settings i open the homesafe viewdevice config. The camera is showing up there. I can click to modifiy. The user is admin, password is what i set on the nvr. I can adjust the settings to the camera. Change ip etc and click modify and it will save to whatever i set it to. Problem is when i try to connect to it via internet explorer or any web browser it does not connect to that ip. At all. Its not connected to the internet?

Basically i have a 16ch 4k swann nvr that i paid a fortune for. In less than a year i have had 3 replacements from swann. All lasting less than a month before i get video loss or freezing. Ive been waiting 3 months for another warranty replacement but the dont want to process it. They keep stalling. Ive expressed the nvr is not fit for purpose. They blamed the faults on my metal anti vandal security camera cage as the possible reason for the fault. Blaming interference down the cable!!!!!

Anyway, the cameras all work fine. I was going to bite the bullet and buy a hikvision nvr to use with these cameras. Though reading these cameras aswell as the 4k spotlight cameras do not work with hikvision units ive hit a dead end.

Now, i either sell all these cameras or try to find a work around. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

I've got a Swann NVR with 8 * NHD-865MSB cameras. I'd like to get rid of the NVR and use the cameras with Blue Iris or something similar. So far in trying this out:

- I have connected the camera directly to a PC (via a POE adapter) with its Ethernet port set to 172.16.1.10. No router, just plugged directly into the PC.

- With the Swann configuration tool, I can see the camera at 172.16.1.157.

- It looks like I can change the user and password fields from the configuration tool but I haven't tried to mess with this yet.

- I can see an RTSP stream from the camera using VLC and the address rtsp:/172.16.1.157:554/ch01/00. It seems to have about a 1-second delay but at least it's talking.

- I have tried both Http and https but no luck getting up a camera web page at 172.16.1.157, just gives an error 404.

- Advanced Port Scanner shows open ports 80 and 554 on the camera at 172.16.1.157. It also shows a device with no open ports (and a different MAC address) at 172.16.1.100. Both of these show Swann Communications as the manufacturer. 172.16.1.100 doesn't show in an IP Scan and it may be a cache issue with Advanced Port Scanner but this PC was borrowed from work and had never been connected to anything close to a Swann camera. It could also be that this is my Swann DVR showing up on the network as it is still connected and the PC has WiFi enabled.

- The camera can be pinged just fine at 172.16.1.157.

I feel like this is so close but there is a piece missing. I don't have a spare router handy to try out but I don't think the direct PC connection is a problem. If there is a web page then I can only see port 80 open to reach it. Maybe the camera doesn't use HTTP but this would be unusual.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

try port 85 rather than 80
I tried a few more things just to test the camera connection. Using the Swann Device Configuration Tool, I can at least change the camera IP address, HTTP port and Static/DHCP setting. After a few seconds the camera restarts and has the new addresses. I changes to a different subnet (192.168.10.x) and could still ping the camera and stream on RTSP. So there must at least be something more than ping access to the camera. I have tried a few other ports (8080, 85, 1500) without success.

Getting frustrating!!

I was unable to change the dhcp setting with the camera stuck in static so thats better than what i got. Lol.

I spent all day yesterday trying to get a result which did not come. Im at a point where im thinking to just sell the cameras individually to get some cash back towards a better system

I have found that cams can get stuck at 2 levels. At one level, reconnecting them to the swann DVR and putting the DVR switch in auto resets the cam. However I can one or 2 cams that seem to an additional problem that allows them to work off the IVR but not via the router. I can see them and see thier details in device config but they won't listen to changes. Its as if the password gets changed....

Hi all, I've got 4 NHD-885 (in kit with a NVR8-8850) and thanks to this post I've been able to access the cameras both directly through ONVIF and through the NVR. (see the first cam)
NVR:

I found really interesting that the camera have some additional possibility, not exposed by the NVR, first of all FTP recording

an onvif program (ONVIF Device Manager) that I've downloaded seems to capture some events

but unfortunately It doesn't seems able to capture other events from Video Analysis (like perimeter intrusion and so on)

Hope this can help someone with that camera

This chain is now 4 pages and I can honestly say to everyone in the market to purchase Swann cameras trying to get them to work on Hikvision / LTS / Dahua systems to not bother! It's not worth all of this time spent ! I've been reading how some of the Swann cameras don't all use the same default passwords, some people still don't have all of the cameras functions through ONVIF, etc, etc.

I wish someone would have made the following post like this sooner to save everyone time and money :

I would stick with new or used Hikvision and LTS products, which can be mixed. I try to purchase any new equipment from a legit seller, on amazon or ebay. I avoid the repackaged brown boxed China firmware stuff with non-upgradeable firmware. If I'm purchasing from ebay, I select "From U.S. sellers only". If you want to save money, buy used cameras and NVRs on ebay BUT ask the seller if the firmware is upgradeable from the Authentic Hikvision or Authentic LTS U.S websites, if not , forget about it. That's it . Don't cut corners with this. The cameras will last for many years. But if you cannot upgrade the firmware , this will most likely become a problem down the road and could render the camera completely useless. DO NOT BOTHER using anything that says " Hikvision Compatible" or Anbviz - It is NOT 100 % compatible. They do not playback remotely on iphone/droid. However, they do have a microphone built in which does work great, but I sent mine back for a refund.

I like dome cameras myself, it's not easy for bad actors to see where the camera may be pointing in a dome camera setup. The turret style cameras are great as well, no halo effect at night with the infrared. I aim to get 100 ft or more for the infrared range for nightime. The used stuff works great from Hikvision. The money saved in electric as well as using a cheaper battery backup, smaller hard drives, $100 4-Channel IP NVR is just the way to go. I've used Blue Iris and Milestone on a computer and enjoyed it , but nothing, nothing compares to using the NVR ( I prefer the LTS over Hikvison for the NVR ). After using LTS NVRs , I realized I should have never wasted my time or money using a computer with software installed onto it. I went for a higher end LTS NVR 2nd time around after using a basic 4 channel IP NVR and I'm so glad I did - just for all of the additional features, 32 cameras , some of them are off site at remote locations , 2 monitors can connect , multiple hard drives with R.A.I.D, multiple router connections, etc. The playback and remote viewing is so much faster than the computer. I install basic 4 channel LTS NVRs for friends and family and they are great too, real work horses, reliable and cheaper on electric than a computer. I buy new -the purple disc drives for surveillance systems -1TB hard drive for every 4 cameras , the cameras and NVR are H.265 or H.265+ technology with features like -line detection and intrusion areas, not just motion. This will help notify you by email or text when you set up the notifications as well as save you disc space

H265 or H265+ technology will allow you to not have to purchase large hard drives which is a good savings. You should get a months worth of recording time for every 1tb using a set of (4) cameras , 4 megapixel each . Use the LTS Connect App for the LTS NVR and just use the PT CLOUD for your network settings (Hikvision is HIK-CONNECT , I believe) . It works flawlessly ! No messing with the DDNS settings at all. If you are thinking about a camera doorbell, I suggest sticking with the LTS Doorbell Camera setup as well. No monthly fees, and the doorbell camera records like an additional camera on your NVR system as well as working flawlessly with the app. Other doorbells are proprietary onto themselves, they are a closed system , so don't even bother with companies that won't allow you to use their products comingled with other brand name onvif systems.

INSTALLATION TIPS:
Get a Box of 500 or 1000 ft Cat 5. Use real copper cat 5 , not copper clad crap. Be gentle running the wires, no kinks or hard bends. Get rj45 crimpers from home depot, green handle (Not the cheap crimpers on ebay). Purchase the rj45 plugs that allow the wires to come through and out the plug so you can visually see the wires are placed correctly before crimping. After you crimp , cut the excess off with a razor. Always use 568B wiring diagram for the ethernet plugs. And always put a dab of dielectric grease into the plug. Get a cheap monitor or TV for the NVR. I always suggest a flat monitor or TV for free or cheap on LetGo. All LTS NVRs have HDMI and VGA outputs. Their New NVR comes with a USB mouse. Works perfect. Mount the camera under an eave or to the soffit, out of direct sun if possible. If mounting it to the vinyl siding, get the 6x6 white plastic blocks usually used as a base for light fixtures and mount the camera onto it.

Always write down everything as you program the paramters into the NVR for later. This is very important

I learned about the LTS Line a few years ago on ipcamtalk and have been using LTS ever since. It's rock solid stuff. I have done several of these for friends and family and It's great to install something once and never have to deal with it again.

500 FEET CAT 5 $50
BAG 100 EZ PASS THROUGH RJ45 $10
4 CHANNEL NVR NEW $120
LIGHT FIXTURE PLATES FOR VINYL SIDING $12
NEW LTS IP CAMERAS 4MP 2.8MM $100
USED LTS IP CAMERAS 2.1MP 2.8MM $50
BATTERY BACKUP $50
1 TB WESTERN DIGITAL HARD DRIVE NEW $50
LTH7132 WIFI DOORBELL CAM $190

I installed a swann system on a friends home too because it was the only one with PIR available. He wanted PIR because of alarm triggers. Has old system and dont want the fancy software motion detection ...
I regret the day i made this decision. PIR sounds cool, because u dont have all these false triggers. But... it is impossible to turn only PIR on. They have only option for "motion + pir". So you get the false triggers anyway.

By made this decision i loose...

  • H265+
  • ability of dual/tripe stream
  • ability of recording dual/triple stream same time and motion also
  • onvif, rtsp etc. (because these shitty cams are some propritary shit)
  • any other "cool" triggers
  • real mobile support (the swann app is totally garbage)

By made this decision i have...

  • a system which looses with no reason rtsp stream of nvr (yes it have rtsp on nvr)
  • 8 cameras, 2tb harddrive and poe nvr for only 699
  • cameras which i cannot use with any other system. so when nvr dies, i have to change everthing (i am waiting for this day so hard)
  • image quality is OK

Question: DO we have any good instructions to provide members on Swann cameras to get them to work with Blue Iris or other rtsp standards based recording solutions?
( so far a quick read looks like we're close... )

Hi mCasamento, thanks for the info. Just confirming you have your IPCams powered from a seperate PoE switch, not from the NVR?
I don't have a separate PoE switch and it doesn't look as though you can access the cams behind the NVR (with routes set via the NVR IP)

Just want to throw this out there. I have a Swann NHD-887FMSFB Network Camera. It works standalone without DVR. You can access the setup for it through its web address, mine was assigned by DHCP 10.0.0.??? You can look on your routers connected devices to see what IP it was assigned. If you take the camera apart, you will see that there is an SD card slot inside. You can put a storage SD card in there and configure it to record to its own card and use the web camera access to playback. The web access to the camera looks the same as accessing a Swann DVR. I attached a picture of one of the setup screens. Another thing is, you can't access the setup with Chrome because the plugin wont work in chrome. I use internet explorer (Not Edge) and after installing the plugin, I have fulkl access to the camera. I can change settings, playback recording from the card that I put in the camera, and I can set it up to record to my computer if I wanted to.

Look inside of that camera for an SD Card slot. My 887 has one. I put a 64GB card in it and it works.

I presume you are referring to the NHD-887MSFB (and not the 887F) available from Costco.

Could you shed some light on how you got it to work with the computer?

Yes exactly, I've tried attaching the cam diretcly to a POE Switch.
I'm thinking that connecting a pc with an ip in the same address of that of the webcam in a cam dedicated port of the NVR should let you access the webcam. If this works one can think of adding a device that can route traffic to/from the cams, providing at least one cam ethernet port of the NVR is free

Hi, I have a pair of Swann NHD-885MSB cameras. I've been using them successfully with Blue Iris for awhile now, but I just can't seem to get into the web interface to adjust the date and time/watermark. I've tried all the tips and tricks in this thread, short of plugging the camera directly into a PC, with no luck.

Again, the cameras work great in Blue Iris, using generic RTSP or the Swann profile designed for them. Quality is great, motion detection works etc.. Just can't seem to access the web GUI.
