Just wondering if BI can record along side with DVR? All my cameras and DVR are Dahua and I am looking into BI for its' motion alert and mobile app features.

Yes but I think the limiting factor would depend on how many connections the specific brand cameras can have. I have been running both; had BI since v3 and recently added a Hikvision 16ch NVR last year. My cams are 11 Hik, 2 Dahua and 2 generic 20x PTZ.

The cameras may need to be connected to a POE switch not directly to the NVR. The cameras and BI and NVR are on the local network, To have BI and the NVR working in parallel.

You may be able to record the cameras to BI from the NVR. But this may overload the NVR processor.

I'm ok
You can use BI to record straight from the IP camera up to the number of streams it will allow.
Or you can have BI connect to the DVR and stream it from there. I have some analog cameras that go to a DVR,
then back out to the BI box, and they work well. You will usually have a higher resolution video on the DVR
then it puts out to the BI. Also, if the CPU in the DVR is not fast enough, you might get higher compression on
the video, or even slow frame rates.

As SouthernYankee stated, I do have all my cams connected via switches, none are directly connected to the NVR.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

The DVR NVR5XXX-4KS2 is stand alone unit and all cameras IPC52XX and IPC42XXX starlights (8 total) are connected to a seperate PoE+ switch.

DVR full time recording always been reliable for me so I want to keep it as a full time recording but the IVS smart detection is so-so and I have an old office desktop computer I know have a i7 CPU not sure what series thou .. It's a Dell Opti computer so no nVidia graphic etc in it. I think it 2013 or 2014 .. I just can't remember them model number. I will have to wait until I get home to look.

We are hoping to somewhat improve the alert detection on our iPhone using BI app over the DMSS app. Both my wife and I are Deaf and we really don't want our house light flashing when there a cat walking by or a UPS / FedEx truck driving by (nextdoor neighbor is an extreme eBay seller). Even cloud moving by reflecting off of our parked windshield is triggering the IVS.
