UI3 gets "stuck" for a camera sometimes

Anyone else have this issue? Figured I'd ask around here before I contact support.

This never used to be an issue, seems to have come around in the past few months with updates

Sometimes when I'm looking at the UI3 overview, a car will come onto the left camera, get stuck half way, but then I'll see it go by on the right camera. If I click on the left camera, it sits there spinning the graphic for a few moments and then catches back up. The recording is unaffected

I thought this might be related to the system getting bogged down by trying to write the motion clips to a slow drive, but since moving all new clips to an SSD, no change. CPU is low, 20-25%

All direct to disk, no substreams, no limit decoding

Before I talk to support I am going to bump the RAM to 16GB from 8GB and swap the boot SSD from a Kingston M.2 SATA 256GB, to a Samsung 960 Pro NVMe SSD (So I can make use of a currently disabled SATA port, since its being used by the M.2 SATA)

Perhaps one of those will fix my issues, I am planning to do them anyway

It just did it again, and the motion clip that was recording is now only three seconds long, missing most of the event (24/7 recording still fine)

I just bumped it to 16GB, and I'm going to start playing SSD musical chairs to get it to this NVMe SSD

Just rambling my thoughts, I wonder if it was RAM. Just randomly it will quickly ramp up to over 8GB, and then go back down again. I'm wondering if I was hitting some kind of limitation of 8GB there

I should actually point out that I don't think its UI3 at fault anymore, since that last clip was cut to 3 seconds its clear its not just the UI

UI3 was a game changer for BI!

Alright, now I have 2 x 800GB Intel DC S3610 SSD's, one has the OS and new motion, and the other has 24/7 Recording and DB, then from there it ends up dumping onto spinning rust once it hits 700GBish for each

I might see how this goes, cloning to the NVMe is going to be a pain, so I'll just use these for now. They are enterprise SSD's, so they should be up to the task and more, they have 5.3PB write endurance each

The CPU fan was also being funny, I took it out cleaned it, new paste and it seems to be working better. I'll be replacing it when I get a new case soon anyway

is this problem happening on clips that have been complete, fully recorded, a closed file on disk. Or is it happening on the currently recording clip.

if it hangs, now, will the same alert hang in the same place tomorrow ?

Its the currently recording clip. This is how it happens:

I have UI3 up, see a car come into frame, BI starts recording along with the 10 second pre-trigger. As soon as I click on the active camera the frame freezes, everything in the UI is unresponsive for a few seconds. It figures itself out and the clip is now usually like 3 seconds long, and missed almost everything

During that time the 247 clip was going along fine, and got everything.

I have also had it before where it froze up and was being weird, but looking back the clip was okay. I think its also happened a few times when I haven't clicked anything, but then I don't really notice those

I'm unsure if me clicking around in the UI was spiking the CPU and causing more problems too? I currently have an i5 9400 which sits around 25-35%, but I do have a spare i7 8700K I could use. Currently though there is no way I could cool it in this 1u chassis. I am looking to get a 2u chassis so I can have more flexibility with drives, when I upgrade to that I'll probably swap the CPU too

So far it hasn't done it since upping the RAM, but then it never happened all too often anyway. I did notice the activity on the old Kingston SSD spiking to 100% at times, but that was after I moved the DB off anyway, but I guess it would still be an issue for Blue Iris as all of the rest of the program was running off of it.

It could have also been that the CPU was getting too hot, and throttling back causing all sorts of issues, unsure

Last of all, it could just be a BI issue

How many clips does your BI show down in the bottom middle of the GUI - if more than 200,000, then some have reported it getting buggy.

What resolutions are you running under UI3 - maybe too high and it is spazzing out when you click on one because your computer certainly sounds capable. I run the res and fps fairly low on UI3 - my res is 720p and FPS is 6.

Looks like I'm only right around 70,000 so not too bad

I'm running it set to 4K, but all of my cameras are only 1080p @ 15FPS. So far I've been trying to replicate it and its been good so far, knock on wood

Since moving the new clips to SSD, seeking through is SOOOO much faster

So far so good, no issues. I've tried my hardest to get it to mess up, and it keeps on working. Can't tell if it was the extra 8GB of RAM, or the fact the storage is a million times faster

Also FTP upload now works 100x better. I have it syncing to an intermediate server before ending up online, and so it was able to copy over the network at the full 1G, and I think that was just stressing the poor spinning disk even more, now its on SSD it handles it no issue

Still no issues, no matter what I do it works great

Then I took an 8GB stick out as a test, and the problem came back... so its 100% RAM. I'm sure the new SSD's didn't hurt, but I think the main issue was RAM
