I will be curious about the multi-lens camera. On the surface, it doesn't make sense. I assume that it has two sensors, not just one 1/1.8"? Why would the panoramic and the detail segments use about the same focal length lens vs one being like 3mm (vs both being 8mm) and the other being much longer (32mm or even 56mm)? Wait and see i guess.

Yeah I’m trying to think of how I’d use that also...? Probably use the Pano as a spotter? or I guess really just takes the place of two cameras, overview and zoomed in?

So will there be new models of the 5442 cams released or is the update just a new firmware?

Did I say exciting and wow?

2021 Dahua year look exciting. 8mp + 1/1,2" sweet!

I wouldn't get too excited. 8mp 1/1.2 isn't the same as 4mp 1/1.2.

I don't think anyone has ever posted one of these, this Chart probably ought to be in the Wiki, but for everyone, a Chart of Sensor Size vs Sensor Area and physical size:

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a comaprison chart with 1/1.2 as it's so new. Someone could modify the Chart above and slip it in! However, I found a non CCTV camera chart with 1/1.2 dimensions in amongst non CCTV sensor sizes:

Based on their figures, (there are slight discrepencies with above), 1/1.2" comes out at approximately 85mm2. So fits between 2/3" and 1" in size and nearer to 1".

I wonder how many realised it was that large!!! It's little wonder the low light performance has jumped so much.

As for resolution on the new 8mp 1/1.2 cameras, you're doubling pixel count from 4mp to 8mp. So, effectively halving the individual pixel area. Therefore 8mp 1/1.2 equates to around a 42mm2 die at 4mp if comparing individual pixel space which is for practical purposes the same as 1/1.8".

On that basis, I expect 1/1.2" at 4mp to be the way to go for 2021 at least unti we have another development such as 1" or even 35mm (1 1/3"). Who's crossing their fingers or other body parts.
