Several of you have been helping me in another thread to try to adapt some cameras that I have to the LPR world. Finally I have decided to buy a simple LPR camera and am looking for help.
I want an LPR camera with integrated software for moving vehicles. I want that camera make a list of all license plates and send notifications (mail) when certain license plates (black list) show up. Something very simple please. Thanks.

Cheap is a relative term LOL.

You need a camera with ANPR capabilities. Only a few exist that can do that. They start around $500 USD

But more info is needed like distance from the camera to the plates as the required zoom needed changes based on that distance.

Maximum distance and other features may change. I need to know the cheapest model that has everything I ask for. I have seen Hikvision and Dahua but there are still cheaper models. The most important thing is that camera has a black list with notifications to the mail when it identify certain license plates.

The Dahua models, 7- and ITC-series are all in the 4-500$ range.

If you find a cheaper camera that can handle it, please let me know and I'll buy it to test and compare.

I've never seen anything like what you want for less than $500 and that is the floor.

However, not sure if it really works ?

@holiday - you didn't provide a link - does that camera actually do onboard LPR captures and collecting and reading of the plates, or is it just claiming you can use it to visually read plates?

I have seen many cameras that state that, but there is no onboard collecting and reading of the plates.

just go to aliexpress and search for it if u are interested.

this is just an example and i dont know if it works so no link is provided.

I don't have it so i dont know if it has software built in, i have just relayed what the seller is claiming, that's why i have called it rolling the dice.

I have asked almost every seller on aliexpress and my conclusion is as follows:
Camerasare models without software
Cameras are speed cameras that don't do what I'm looking for
Dahua and Hikvision sellers recommend the most
The only cheaper model than Dahua and Hikvision is the one I put in the previous post, and I don't know of anyone who tested it.

I proposed to connect a cheap IP camera with OPENALPR, but my idea does not work because OPENALPR requires to be connected within the local network for it to work, and it is not my case :(

if the software is included why need to cooperate with licence plate recognition software ?

Also it's difficult to include software as different country has different plates so paring up with openalr is probably the better answer.

The OpenALPR problem is the one I said before. In order to integrate the camera image with the software, you need to be within the same local network. In my situation, windows client and the camera do not share a local network. What I can do?

A RPi wouldn't work for OpenALPR anyway. Not powerful enough. A Nano Jetson would however.

Listen, its either learn to setup a VPN between the two sites (steepest learning curve) or port forward (not recommended!) or install a computer at the remote site (what I'd recommend) in order for it to connect to the camera. Those are the only three options.

I have one and it worked. but my house is in an awkward position on a bend so it's very difficult to place a camera in a good position. unless i try those bird house enclosed method (another day/ another project)

However for those cars that come into my driveway.. it works perfectly :)

You have OpenALPR running on a Rpi? What resolution and FPS?

You don't know the resolution and fps? Hmm... Well I'm glad it works anyway.
