Fiddling around with my Dahua SD4 PTZ series camera, I changed some settings as I'm always fine tuning. Not sure why or when I did it, but for the last 3 weeks I was getting no Blue Iris alert events for this camera. At first I thought it was due to the recent BI update. Then I thought I dabbled with something in camera GUI menu itself. It came down to the alert events in Blue Iris (DIO, ONVIF, external, audio, group). You see... all this time, I thought since these were ONVIF cameras, I only had to have the ONVIF checkmarked, nothing else (I did it to this camera only as all my other cameras by default have everything checked). Well, finally figured out to have 'external' check marked to get things working again :) Lessons learned!
What purpose does ONVIF checkmark serve? Or maybe it is because Dahua is not ONVIF compliant anymore (so I read somewhere?) we have to use external for this brand?

I have noticed the same thing and do believe it is a result of the updates.

If I roll back to an earlier version, it works like you say, but the newer version I need to check more of them.

What I figured out is ONVIF are motion detects and External are IVS alerts

learn something new everyday!
Holbs,

How I am using ONVIF in BI is in the camera I have SMD only scheduled 11pm to 7am alerting if anybody is on the sidewalk or out in the street in front of my house. I have IVS (External) in the cameras schedule 24x7 to alert if anybody comes on my property.

How can I configure Blue Iris to only alert on EXTERNAL (IVS) events, and not on every movement due to wind from ONVIF events?

@alecz If you are on BI5 v5.7.5 or higher, at camera level, there is a ONVIF config screen to enable IVS only. i.e. Turn off all the other ONVIF events. Here is a link to a different thread where I shared some screenshots:

Further, you should either use IVS or MD/SMD, not both.

But if your IVS is triggering for wind, then you will get alerts for that as well in BI unless you run it thru CodeProject for an additional AI processing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am on 5.4.6.3 not on BI 5.7.5 yet, will check it out. I have a distinction between ONVIF and EXTERNAL alerts on the "Camera Settings > Alert" tab, and I unchecked ONVIF, but made no difference. Only way to control it seems to be to disable MD/SMD in the camera and stop the triggers altogether.

My IVS is not triggering for wind because I draw the rules around trees and bushes. There is so much more control with IVS than with MD/SMD, especially outside.
