Does anyone know what the codes in the "Version Firmware Property" stand for?

I bought a couple of OEM Hikvision ColorVu's for extended testing.

Two are listed as "HS-VUT04G1-IA20200618AAWRE########" w/ a Firmware Version Property of "C-R-G1-0"

One is listed as "HS-VUB14G1-I20201116AAWRF########" w/ a Firmware Version Property of "B-R-G1-0"

I was able to successfully flash a hikvision firmware, latest G1 version, on to the latter, but the two former cameras give me an error when attempting to flash the digicap.dav file ("The type of upgrade file mismatches.")

They're supposed to be DS-2CD2347G1-LU OEM cameras (and appear to be for all intents and purposes)

I have a DS-2CD2347G1-LU OEM model IPC-T2347G-LU bought from EmpireTech Andy. The Firmware Version Property on it is "C-R-G1-0" and I'm able to flash official G1 hikvision firmware on it.

Hi Radman that was strange timing I have just been thinking about my cameras so decided to do a firmware update today, but want to move away from bluriris PC recording and move it to SD card on the camera recording just so my old PC is not running constantly especially with electricity prices going up ever KW counts.

Anyway I downloaded this version

onto my desktop its a zip file no need to touch it. Log into the camera then configeration then maintenance and on the first tap down at the bottom it says firmware upgrade. Browse for the file you downloaded and it does the rest, its very easy. If it does not work maybe give Empire Andy a shout.

Just looking at the 2 I have and it appears they can take a 128GB micro SD card. Does anyone save only to camera card, any spec on cards and also how long do you get for 128GB (thats probably a how long is a piece of string question) Also have 2 Dahua IPC-HDW3841T-ZAS they seem to take 256GB. What is the latest firmware for these? Its a pity as I bought 2 of these as 8mp etc. but cannot capture car numberplates as well as I could with 2 really old dahua 3mp ones at night time!

The recording length depends upon many factors from motion vs no motion. Compression used, frame rate, bitrate, video quality, and how much you have allocated to video vs pictures etc. Regardless, I'm using a Sandisk 128GB High Endurance Micro SD card which allows me to store 9 days of video.

The Micro SD Card is allocated as 95% video and 5% pictures so that's 5.5GB that could have captured more video. The system is set to use H.265+, 30 FPS, 8192 / 4092 bitrate, highest video quality, VBR, 2688 X 1520 resolution. Some of the other camera systems are using Max Endurance / Industrial Micro SD cards for mission critical applications. I'm performing a long term endurance test to see how they perform vs longevity.

As an aside we have been using all of the above memory type and brands since their initial release for 24.7.365 recording and none of failed as of yet. Regardless, edge recording should not be the only method to capture security video as its not (IF) its when the memory will fail.

Hi Teken,
Thank you so much bought 2 of the sandisks yesterday for the first 2 hikvisions SanDisk High Endurance 100MBs Micro SDXC Card with Adapter 128GB seems a good price as well and if I get that all working ok I will maybe get 2 x 256gb for the dahua cameras. Sounds like you get plenty or recording time on your system as well. I presume thats continual recording not motion detection etc. I only record to PC at 5 fps but with all the other settings the same as you have. In theory if I even went to 10fps then I would maybe get around 27 days worth if you get 9 at 30fps (in theory). I think it will save me quite a bit of electricity over the year as the PC will not be on at all really.

Only thing I was just thinking about, do you use any sort of app to view the cameras when away from home? I wonder will my blueiris app stop working once the PC is off or if it connects directly to the cameras. Guess I just need to turn off the PC to find out!

Thanks agian for teh great info.

Yes, the 128GB is the best value between the three types from SanDisk. I expect to see the larger (256GB) capacity to drop in price within the next few years too. The nine days is indeed based on 24.7.365 recording with various smart detection enabled.

I don’t know about dropping to 9 FPS vs 15 FPS to be honest. I have all of my security camera set to the maximum FPS as I want to see and record the smoothest video possible.

Bandwidth, storage, isn’t a factor in my network so wanted to use the full potential of each security camera system to really understand their limits and what tweaks needed to be done to achieve a specific result.

You’ll see lots of feedback about dropping FPS to crazy low numbers along with saying no need for going past 24 FPS because that’s what the movie industry uses?!?

You have to ask the question why???

The answer is their network and hardware can’t keep up with the performance of the camera! That being the case the person is just using a band aid / compensating for a lack of resources.

That’s fine if that’s what you have to work with. But speaking for myself, it seems crazy to waste all that high technology and performance and hobbling what it was intended to do!

As it relates to BI if you turn it off you won’t be able to access the cameras as the server will be down. I don’t use remote viewing at all while off site as the security video has no physical internet access and don’t need to see anything while away.

If for whatever reason I need to access the video offsite I can simply connect the internet cable and drill in through VPN. All of this is ready to be done at anytime if required.

As it relates to energy consumption you have me very curious tell me more!

I will just need to spend lots of time messing around with the settings once I get the cards as I would like around 20 days storage or maybe closer to 30. Will just have to delve into the settings and learn a bit more.

Thanks for the BI info yes I think once the PC is off then there will be no access. Will find a work around to be able to remotely log into the cameras.

The energy the PC uses is not accurate as I have just bought a meter to measure usage but I was thinking if it uses around 100 watts x 24 x 365 and at 14.8p / KWH from my present supplier and thats only going up then it would consume around £129 a year if I have my maths right. No need to waste money so a few SD cards and I can hopefully turn off the PC for about 23 hours a day or more as I tend to use my phone or tablet for most things now.

A possible solution is to allow the Hikvision P2P service run and you can connect when needed to any security camera. Obviously this assumes you’re OK with this sort of access. I personally wouldn’t do it given its a Chinese server but for what it’s worth.

I honestly never seen or heard of anyone providing solid proof Hikvision has ever abused this service. Just something to consider as a possible method to access the cameras when the BI Server is down. Obviously if your router supports OpenVPN or another computer was up you could VPN into the home that way too.

Could this not be similar to the latest bug found in Hikvision security cameras?!? Lazy vs unknown vs on purpose?? A perfect example is SSL what ever iteration. It wasn’t lazy or on purpose the holes were found by white hats and that specific encryption was dropped by many as it couldn’t be updated to prevent the exploits.

Everyone can relate to the huge cluster as it relates to many AMD / Intel chips vulnerable to the various CPU exploits. Again, was that on purpose vs lazy vs unknown?!?

Billions of people use some form of cloud portal service. These people have taken the position that AWS / Google who ever is trustworthy. Yet it was proven Google reads (scans) your mail?!?

Is that on purpose - Yes!

The breach as it relates to AWS data for the military defence was that lazy vs purpose vs unknown?!? In that case it was a lazy incompetent fool who left the door wide opened and as always someone was scanning the web for holes.

Now, if the conversation is does the Chinese PRC have direct access to Hikvision / Dahua the answer is - YES! Hence my reply as to whether you trust the PRC won’t use that same access to do whatever.
