I just ordered an
HIKvision DS-7616NI-E2 off ebay for a "way too cheap" price.

I don't ever really expect to need to run 16 cams but the headroom [extra bandwidth] this NVR should have will be a good thing, I'm hoping.

I figured since this is ebay I could get my $$ back if it does not get sent out or it arrives and is "not as described"

Lastly, posting here so any of you who want to take a chance and order from these guys can do so if you so choose.

link>> Here is the sellers listing of HIK NVR's if any one wants to check it out.

Since my NVR came in and it seems fine I'm posting a link to the seller, I have no affiliation with them except as a customer.

If any one wants to see anything or has any questions let me know.

A couple of these are upside down?? They were right side up on my computer before uploading so??

I can't get my D-Link cams and crappy foscam to show up in this NVR. Not really too worried about that. I'll be buying some HIKvision cams soon to use with it.

Though if any one has any suggestions let me know. Saw in another post about forwarding ports 8000 and 554 to the internal NVRs IP, Would that help? Maybe I'll try it later.

So seeing a cam and recording to it can not be tested at this point.

This is why I posted the link, so you could check it out if you wish.

I also did a google search on the sellers ebay name and found out they also have store located in Miami, FL.

Regarding seller ratings I certainly would not go by that in a purchase like this. The guy has a feedback score of 13.

This means he has 13 feedbacks.

I sell stuff on ebay a lot, so I know how they do things and ebay has at the expense of sellers, become very buyer centric.

This simply means they bend over backwards to make buyers happy, or in sarcastic terms, they kiss the buyers A$$ at the expense of the sellers and interestingly enough, at their own expense like in insurance policy.

This means if a seller rips you off, ebay will try to force the seller to make it right, but they can only do so much towards that end. After that point they will refund you "out of their own pocket"

I had this happen recently to me, and I got all of my money back including shipping. The seller was uncooperative so ebay stepped up and refunded my money themselves.

In this case concerning this NVR, the seller does offer returns but I have to pay return shipping. If it is a defective unit or "not as advertised" I should be able to get shipping refunded also by demanding full refund including shipping.

The seller has shipped it out with tracking but they used the cheapest and slowest shipping available, USPS ground. This type of shipping is known to be hard on items with banged up boxes being the norm due to more handling.

That's because it is not POE ready.
I did know this upfront but all the other listings I could find for this model without POE are for considerably more $$. That is why I used the term "way too cheap", even for this model, it is well below the normal price for these.

Feel free to prove me wrong, if you know of another source that is close to or under the price in the listing.

The unit without POE is going to work out better for me due to how my house is setup. I need to place the POE switch in another location then run a single cat 5 cable to my office area where I keep all the office computers and router as my house is 2 story and my office is down stairs and running 4 or 8 cat 5 cable down to the NVR would not work out well.

So I am hoping I made the right choice with this unit.

Yes kozmo2k, I will do exactly that so if it turns out well other people here can also get in on the deals. This seller has listed more HIKvision NVR's at low prices since I bought from him.

I bought a 3tb hard drive just after I saw the NVR had shipped so I will be ready to test it as soon as it comes in. I'll take plenty of photos so everyone can see how it turns out.

Now I need to order some better cams, but I think I'll wait til the NVR comes in and make sure all is well with that purchase first.

Thanks

I ordered the HIKvison NVR on the 18th

Ordered the hard drive from newegg on the 21st.

Hard drive arrived today but not the NVR, though tracking did say it was supposed to arrive today.

Newegg used Fedex, they are usually always faster even if you don't pay for 3 day.

I check the above EBAYer listing but does not have DS-7616 without POE. He has listed DS7608 for $120. I would prefer 16 channels for $20 more. I will wait..
I have few questions on HIKVISION devices because HIKVISION device name method is very confusing. DVR, NVR and hybrid model numbers first 6 characters are same. This is same for the cameras. I am looking for an cheaper version of 16 channel hybrid dvr/nvr so I can add different resolution cameras on need bases i.e. 2- 3mp IP cameras, 4- 720P HD and 4 1080P HD. Please suggest topology plus good source in USA.

He just listed a DS-7616NI-E2 a little while ago. It is an NVR though not a hybrid. It only has the single network connection but that is the cheapest price you are gonna find.

I am not sure what models have both analog and digital connections, that is what the hybrid is right?. You can search other ebay listings and there is a seller here on the forum called milkisbad who sells HIKvision

I did receive my yesterday, bought on Amazon (had a bunch of gift cards...). Same model, some Lot#.
Finally had a chance to set it up this morning. All is well, short of the "sending emails (known firmware bug, per other posts) error".
However, when I connected a (VGA only) monitor to it, it displays (1x7 layout) only ONE of my Hikvison cameras, and 3 other brands (HongJinTian, or something like that, bullet and Zmodo, using ONVIF protocol).
I have 4 other Hikvision cameras, that are detected, and can be accessed throughout the menu system, but they do not display on the (directly connected) monitor.
When the NVR is accessed over IP in a browser, I can see all of the cameras just fine.
Not sure if I missed something ...

Have you tried it with a higher resolution monitor or a TV using the HDMI?

I have mine hooked up via the HDMI and have it set at 1920 x 1080 or 1080P in the display settings on a 24" computer monitor that uses HDMI and does 1920 x 1080. I don't have cams hooked to it but it displays the cam matrix where each small cam screen says "no link".

Perhaps it can not display everything in VGA screen due to VGA being actually pretty small?

Just tried mu 24" LED Asus 1920x1080 monitor over HDMI: same result. Shows only ONE Hikvision (DS2032) camera and the three generic (ONVIF) cams. Tried different layouts (3x3, 1x5, 4x4) same result. Hmmm
BTW, the cooling fan, is it loud, or what? Holly...

When you hooked up that monitor did you also reset your resolution to a higher level in the config settings? The display settings are not automatic, you have to manually adjust to match your monitor resolution. Mine, by default was set to the lowest possible VGA resolution when first turned on.

If your internal fan is making a lot of noise, sounds like you got the model with the internal power supply. My photos do not show the external power brick but if you look at the case in the photos, you can see there is no internal power supply.

Mine has only a tiny internal fan that is completely silent.

If you do have the internal power supply, not sure how we could both have same model and lot number? Whats up with that?
