I purchased a few of the Hikvision cameras so I could use the cameras' motion detection and take the burden off of Blue Iris. When I run the Hikvision software, the image is great, but with an almost imperceptible lag. The problem is that when I view the Hikvision window in BI, the video is slow to show any movement, and doesn't capture the full range of motion. The camera runs firmware v5.3.0-build 151016 (which came with the camera) and is running on an Ethernet connection. her than that the camera has too many settings to describe in this post. If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix the performance of the camera in BI, I wold very much appreciate some guidance. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. First things first, you must set the camera to record direct to disk. Record tab>file format
What is your cpu consumption?

Thanks for the quick reply. I had already set up the camera in BI for direct to disk recording. Where would I find the cpu consumption? Aha, just found it in BI. It seems to vary from about 19% - 25% with the most common range from 22% - 25%. Also, just to make it clear, I have other cameras (Foscams) set up in BI that show no video lag.

Task manager...also you wont really notice much cpu reduction by using the cameras motion detection, if any. What CPU are you using and how many total cameras and what is their resolution and FPS.

CPU usage - 22%-25%
Total cameras - 6 (the one laggy Hikvision and 5 Foscams with no lag)
Resolution and FPS - 720p and 640 x 480, all at 10-15 FPS
CPU - i3 2200

What do you mean by lag, how long is the lag? what does "doesnt capture full range of motion" mean?

I am seeing a 10-15 second lag between activity and activity as displayed in the BI console. This is a new development with no changes in cpu or camera count.

2 Sharx 3905

BI cpu load hovers around 70-75%

There is virtually no lag when when live viewing camera's web server via browser.

Thanks...

Also, the video clips appear to be stop action, not smooth as before. I'm guessing the lag time and jerky vids are connected. I'm recording direct to SSD with plenty of space.

I'm using the latest version of Blue Iris (as of May 21,2016) and I can't find 'Direct to Disk' or any other instruction as such.. Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm having a huge issue with overloading an i7 4990. Thanks

Forgive me for approximating this answer. I think you will be able to make sense of it. It is under the properties of each camera, video tab, then the Setup button (something like that), you will see the option at the bottom.

At the bottom of my Properties/Video it reads "Text and Graphic Overlays" with an Edit button in the middle of it.

There is a section of the help file explaining this. Its a must to use with muti megapixel cameras.
If you are using the demo version of blue iris it will not be utilizing direct to disk.

It can be somewhat challenging searching for Direct to Disk in the help sections...the developer spells it this way: direct-to-disc
Try searching Help using that search term.
