    Fox Fight Club

This is from a few months ago but I forgot to post it here. I often see a fox on several of my cameras roaming the property but I've never seen two together fighting. Right near the end of the clip you can hear one get body slammed into the rollup door right below the camera.

Looking for ideas/solution to hiding wire in visible eve?

A piece of simple crown molding along that length should hide that.

    Moisture in Dahua IPC-HDW2231R-ZS

I had this problem on one camera that would get rain directly on the can. It has the desiccants and the rubber seal but fogged anyway. Ultimately I ran a ring of electrical tape around the two halves of the housing and that has fixed it. Luckily I had white electrical tape so you don't even...

Accepting Card Payments For Part Time/On the Side Installers

Not for camera related work but other work stuff....I use my bank's phone app for depositing checks. If takes care of points 1 and 2. I haven't had to go through dealing with point 3. Knock on wood....

    Dedicated BI, CPU choice

I run 5 Dahua starlights on an i5-4590 with 8GB ram, 64bit Win10 Even when viewing remotely all the cameras from my office upstairs from the BI machine, the cpu ranges right around 20%. Plenty of machine.

VPN --- run on the Blue Iris PC or on the router?

randytsuch has easy to follow instructions for setting up OpenVPN on your Asus router. That is what I use.

Best place to buy Cat 5 Cable online?

I used EZ-RJ45 plugs. The wires push through the ends so it is really easy to see if you have it wired correctly. There is a special crimper to cut the ends off, but I use a standard crimper that I already had, and use a pair of wire cutters to trim it. I put the cutters on a grinder to make...

    Random flag on clip?

I had this happen to one of my cameras this morning just after 4am. What does it mean when a clip is automatically flagged? I checked the log and all it says at that time stamp is MOTION. There was a car in the far distance (150yds) across the street whose lights probably triggered the clip...

    Running CAT 6 to cameras...

You shouldn't need to go through the concrete. Most likely, your siding stops at the top of or a little below your foundation wall. Behind the siding you probably have OSB, a sill plate and rim joist on top of the concrete. In your basement, take a look at the top of the concrete, you should...

    Running CAT 6 to cameras...

Running Cat behind vinyl siding is easy. You mentioned running it down the corners but horizontal is easy too. There is a siding tool (called a zip tool) that lets you pull back the siding enough to run/staple your cable. Simple to use and can be found at hardware stores.

    Simple Port based VLAN

This was a helpful thread. I bookmarked it a while back knowing I'd need it. Now that my cameras are on the way, I'm setting things up. I have a Netgear Prosafe switch that I setup using your instructions. Easy. Thanks randytsuch.

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

The EZ plugs are pretty slick, but I didn't want to buy a new cripmer when I had a perfectly good crimper already. Since the EZ crimper crimps and cuts the wires, I use a a pair of flush wire cutters. Works great.

    Cable hider.

If you have baseboard, can you pry it off and run the wire behind it? Then you'd only need enough wire mold to bring it up to the plug.

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Same here. After all the praising of the Dahua Starlight, I opened a conversation too. Haven't heard back yet, but as has been mentioned it sounds like the forum is keeping him pretty busy. Good for him, patience for us.....;)

That looks like some kind of sensor housing for a indoor/outdoor weather station.

    Hello from Cincinnati

I've been reading though this site for several days now. I have learned quite a bit. The amount of info on this subject is almost overwhelming. I'm in the early stages of designing a home system. Based on what I've found here I've gone through several changes. Glad I found this site. :)
