    HOA Approvals for camera installation

Lol.. sure! why not? But to be fair, the creepiness is I think in that the camera is recording them. Also, a person standing on the road that’s looking at you walk by is not really creepy. It is, however, if that’s all they’re doing. :)

    HOA Approvals for camera installation

That’s it really, that it “feels” creepy. I can argue as much as I want about the legality of it or that it’s the same as me standing on the road with a camera. Truth is that if I was on the other side I’d think it was creepy too. However, I see package thefts all the time and I sincerely think...

    Terrible picture of thief SD59225U-HNI

Why shouldn't I just use a wireless camera instead of doing all that? I know this forum hates wireless cameras but with a wifi client device and repeaters, how this setup going to be better?

    Terrible picture of thief SD59225U-HNI

Thanks @fenderman, that is the most zoomed out I can be. I actually need to replace that camera (coz my neighbors don't like the motion tracking when I point the camera at the street in front of my home - the reason I bought a large PTZ in the first place). I'm planning to replace it with the...

    Terrible picture of thief SD59225U-HNI

Oh, I've been on the default settings all this while! I'm gonna try the scheduled day/night modes and play with exposure settings. Initial googling suggests I should increase shutter speed to get better stills but ensure that there is enough light. I'm assuming I can make it so that IR can...

    Terrible picture of thief SD59225U-HNI

My Dahua caught a thief but the picture quality is terrible :( the motion tracking didn't do it's thing either. The motion tracking is moody at best, I find that I have to move the camera around a bit every now and then to make sure the motion tracking is doing it's thing. What am I doing wrong?

    HOA Approvals for camera installation

Thanks all. The HoA decided to not allow PTZ cameras and only allow cameras not more than 8x8x8 inches in size, including all housing. So there.. :-| Not surprisingly, many have just installed arlos. No one wants to spend money on cabling in a multilevel town home. I've ordered a ipc-hdw5231r-z...

    Advice on Outdoor PoE Camera

I have that behind my garage which is covered my first floor deck. Unfortunately, I also have another version of that larger camera (see signature) which I have to take down and is exposed to rain. I'm really looking for an outdoor ip66+ PTZ that's not more than 8 inches tall, wide or deep. i...

    Advice on Outdoor PoE Camera

Is there a reasonably sized outdoor PTZ anyone would recommend? SD29204T-GN is reasonable sized but not meant for outdoors, unfortunately.

    HOA Approvals for camera installation

That's what I did. Asked for forgiveness. They insist that it will be hard to say no to similar requests in the future. They asked the participating members at the HOA meeting how they would feel if everyone got a camera like that. Half of them said they didn't like it. Other half were ok with...

    HOA Approvals for camera installation

My HOA is concerned about approving my camera. They're saying its big, creepy (with motion tracking) and aesthetically not pleasing. This is the Dahua SD59225U-HNI. This is a newly constructed community and I was the first one to reach out for approval. They are looking to set a precedent with...

Cameras for policing residents. Good or bad?

I agree that cameras are good for security and safety reasons. Now I'm wondering if I should sign up to procure, setup and maintain this for the community or just let the HoA do it. How much effort would that be?

Cameras for policing residents. Good or bad?

The folk in my community are riled up because some residents have been littering the mail areas with the USPS flyers. There's also been some abuse of guest-only parking. All really trivial issues IMO. And then, a resident dumped a sofa near the trash compactor. That was it, the final straw...

Recommendations for horizontally mounted PoE camera for Small Space

Yea, you're right. Dahua PTZs are pretty large. This one looks like it'd be small SD22204T-GN. But no IR. I don't need a PTZ anyway. The domes I heard weren't good with IR. Turrets have low have low WAF. What your opinion on that? Is it the size or the looks?

Recommendations for horizontally mounted PoE camera for Small Space

This one looks like it has no IR. I guess I should've mentioned that. The wedge does. Any idea if these PTZ? How does it compare to the other IR dome? IPC-HDBW4231E-AS

Recommendations for horizontally mounted PoE camera for Small Space

I have a foyer that I want to cover. I've got a Foscam with a PoE splitter right now with an ugly mount. I'm looking to replace this with something that can mount horizontally. Must have audio! I would love for it to replace my wall plate or mount right over it or something like that, to hide...

Noob - Looking forward to my new setup...and a question

Are you sure its not the amcrest logo ? Edit: I would either try resetting the settings to default again (press and hold the reset button for 30s) or look in the section of settings that allow users to set a pixelated private zone.

    Need Router Recommendation

I have an ERX, with a linksys router in ap mode. the vpn server is on the blue iris pc and the cameras are connected to the router through a PoE switch. ERX setup wasn't as easy as setting up a typical home router but there is a wizard and it's not like I had to to everything manually. DDNS was...

where are you guys finding i7-6700 Dells under 500?

Tell them that you can get the marked price without their help. Ask them what can they do for you. They'll offer 5% and you say no, you want 10%. They'll say they can't do that and you keep pushing until they say they gotta talk to their manager. They may want to add a service item to your order...

Ubiquity AP vs Linksys EA8500 in AP mode

You're right. It is more expensive to get the router than to get a ap and a switch. it is, however, also another device. which might be ok if i weren't trying to reduce the clutter behind my tv :). I could probably go for a cheaper router that gives me similar features. i chose the 8500 because...

ADVICE PLEASE. New system build HIK or Bi (12cam 4mp)

From what I remember the size in decreasing order is mini, small ff and ultra small ff/micro. Mini maybe unneccesarily big if you just want to add a hdd. Micro/Ultra SFF maybe too small. The power rating may also be lower for the smaller size. I have a SFF which let me add a hdd

oh, sure. it doesn't work without proprietary hardware anyway :) oh, cmon! see this image here. forget the text and list of motion notifications below. imagine just that timeline view and video in landscape mode and you could scrub left right, zoom into a timeline view for finer scrubbing. and...

ADVICE PLEASE. New system build HIK or Bi (12cam 4mp)

It shouldn't be the main consideration, I agree. It should have all the functionality you need.. however if it looks pretty the WAF goes up significantly :) jokes aside, i meant the overall user experience not just the UI. timeline overlay on the playback video frame makes for great UX IMO...

ADVICE PLEASE. New system build HIK or Bi (12cam 4mp)

Robust to me means commercial/business grade. Consumer grade is rarely robust IMO and experience. dell optiplex and hp elite desk are business machines as @fenderman has explained in his several posts. the optiplex (i bought a refurb) come with 3 years onsite warranty. the elite desk probably...

ADVICE PLEASE. New system build HIK or Bi (12cam 4mp)

as a noob i learnt from the folk on this forum that one needn't spend too much on nvr machine. $400 buys a decent i7 6th gen PC with perhaps sata hdd and ddr3 ram. of course thats not what I did. i shelled out another $250 to get 16gb ddr4 and a 256gb nvme. not really value additions if all this...

Ubiquity AP vs Linksys EA8500 in AP mode

I need to add a switch to my AP to deal with 3 devices I want to connect over ethernet. I've heard so much about the Ubiquity AP but think that adding another hardware switch in front of the AP to deal with 3 ethernet connections is a waste of money. Why not just get a nice router with similar...

Review-I'll be the guinea pig for the new SD59225U-HNI PTZ.

So here's what I got: I drew a target with size 473*2091. I also added a fast moving rule, but I'm not sure if that one is working. It doesn't track the fast moving cars that zip by. Make sure that the trip wire rules you draw are not occupying the entire frame. You need to leave some part...
