I believe if you upgrade to a 5.4.x revision you will have the cameras revert to CN as the modification which is currently installed by the seller will be overwritten and removed. They don't use a MTD hack like the other cameras you have had exposure to.

What makes you think it is encrypted? Do you know what version of firmware the DS-2CD2022WD-I is or should be running, which this configuration presumably was extracted. At the very least you could look on the base on the camera and tell us what it was once running. How did you extract this...

At first glance, it looks like a configuration file, rather than a firmware file. Typically firmware files are in the Megabytes (approx 16MB) not Kilobytes (your files was ~800K.

There is absolutely, but the ability to run from a specific location (the mounted sd card in your example) requires the linux permission/ability to specify the path. The locked down shell restricts ./ and / usage so no ability to specify the dd executable to run it.
