Anybody using BI for more than 30 cameras?

Is the cpu utilization 75-80% with UI3 running? If so, how much does it improve when you close that? What resolution do you have selected in UI3?

    Questions about network topology

I should point out that I'm not an expert. I don't think there's one right way to do this, but I wanted to give my 2 cents based on my experience. The great tutorial @guykuo has put together is specifically for an ER-X. Unlike the ER-X, most edge routers (including the er-lite) do not have a...

Cisco IP cameras? Keep or buy new ones?

I would try to make use of them first, and see if they perform to your expectations, especially at night. Most of my cameras are 2MP Dahua starlights, and I don't think I need anything more than that (in terms of resolution) for surveillance purposes. With the current models out there right...

    Questions about network topology

I would go with your second option where I'm assuming you are considering two NICs. However, I would connect the second NIC to your existing network (eth1) instead of eth2 as your diagram shows. You are already isolating the cameras from your existing network by utilizing a dedicated NIC and a...

    Hikvision 12v battery

I would check the detailed specs of your camera to see if it lists the acceptable voltage range. My Dahua cameras show 12V ±30%. If that's the same with your cameras, it should work.

    WD 10tb at $160

This seems like the same deal as they had in December (12TB was $179 and 14tb was $199), and even better with the $20 coupon. I bought the 14TB version for $199 but haven't had a chance to install it yet. It is a white label so I will very likely have to tape the pin.

    Rack mount power supply

If you don't need a UPS, this has rear outlets: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFZ98YO I use this for my patch panel.

Does a 4mp sensor become more light sensitive if set to record at 2mp?

I think all the camera does in this case is to down sample the original image to the selected lower resolution. So my guess would be no change in low-light performance.

    Camera Setting Advice

You should also consider flipping the camera 90 degrees. 2.8mm is probably too wide for that area, but if you flip, you will avoid more of the brick and still be able to cover that whole area you want to see, but you might get some sky view that you don't need. If you do this, I would put the...

Why do some of my wifi cams reconnect after a router channel change and some not?

Is your current Unifi AP (AC-M?) set up as a wireless link? If so, could you move it next to the camera and use it as a WiFi bridge? You could simply plug your camera into the ethernet port and stop using the camera's own wifi.

    That’s correct.

Question about upgrading to Version 5

If your support has license has expired with your current v4, you can extend it for $29.95 first and then upgrade to v5 for free. That would keep your license number the same (you just add a support license to it). Your other option is to pay $59.95 for a new v5 license that comes with a...

    CPU Usage 100%

I also remember reading about issues when running the computer headless. Have you tried hooking up a monitor to it even if you're not using it?

    CPU Usage 100%

Have you checked if hardware acceleration is working properly? You might want to roll back to a previous version of the graphics driver. Do you stream your cameras on another device either using an app or UI3?

Installed this on my T2431T-AS without any issues. It also fixed an issue with the previous firmware where I wasn't able to get 4mp picture unless I selected H264B as the codec.

    Switch -> Switch -> Router -> BI?

I would put BI on the same switch as the cameras. Most of your traffic will be from your cameras to the BI machine, so this way you would somewhat isolate that from the rest of your network. I'm not networking expert though, so someone may correct me if I'm wrong.

    Best Tablet to View Cams

Good point. With my setup, I don’t exceed 20% CPU use on my BI machine with UI3 running on the tablet, so I didn’t have to worry about that. But from an optimization perspective, it may make more sense to enable substream on my cameras and use an app that directly connects to them.

    Best Tablet to View Cams

Are you using BI, or do you want to connect to the cameras / NVR directly? +1. I also have a 4-5 year old Lenovo tablet (A10) that I use for viewing my cameras 24/7. I used the BI Android app in the past, but it would crash randomly (not sure if it was the App, or my Android OS). As a...

** Uh...Best Buy $120 External 8TB Hard Drives actually have $250 WD Red Drives Inside?!?!

That’s correct. I have a purple drive and I gave 90% of the drive size to the “New” folder. Anything over that gets deleted, so I don’t use the “Stored” folder. I wouldn’t use the SSD drive for videos. I keep the BI clip database in my SSD and my OS.

** Uh...Best Buy $120 External 8TB Hard Drives actually have $250 WD Red Drives Inside?!?!

I would just use the “new” folder and maximize its size to how much of the drive you want to use for BI, and have it delete after that. I don’t think there‘s any point of setting up a “stored” folder in the same hard drive and have BI keep moving files. I got my 14TB yesterday and it is a...

You could get lucky with a USB connection and have no issues but I read that some people had connectivity issues after a while. I would connect it internally to be safe.

    UI3 Display Clock

The clock shows once UI3 is in full-screen mode. It doesn’t matter if you are viewing a single cam or all of them. I was just trying to help the OP, who specifically asked about UI3; too bad it doesn’t help your case. Wouldn’t BI’s built-in time overlay help you if you select a large enough...

Dahua day/night switch utility - DahuaSunriseSunset

Thanks for the tool! Easy to use and works as expected. My Dahuas switch to night mode once IR kicks in automatically, but that doesn’t work with the two cameras that I force color at night with. This is better than using Dahua’s built-in day/night schedule as it adjusts based on changes in...
