There have been overheating issues with the DR900 in parking mode. This usually occurs in temps in the low 80s or higher. I have a DR750 and had it professionally hardwired. I've had it for almost a year and it's been reliable. I do not use the cloud feature.

If you partition the 3 TB HD into a 1 TB partition for BI and a 2 TB for the other files yes. I would just leave the files there instead of doing that though. Drivepool by default will spread out new files over all your drives.

I can't tell how many SATA ports any of them have. It's not listed in the specs and I don't see a bank of ports on the provided pictures. I would DIY or choose a different prebuilt box.

I would not get the twp HPs. The case looks small form factor which severely limits your ability to add hard drives unless you wanted to put them in an external bay. The Acer is fine. Bigger case with room to put in extra HDs.
