    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

For other DIYers that may want to save a few dozen bucks without the hours of debugging entertainment ;) , the cam has been working fine with SmartIR off for a week, and manually set at 50% IR at night. With external IR illuminator, plates are captured as well as posted in LPR forum a couple of...

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

The PoE buck converter is a separate board in my camera. Maybe the same on your cam. There are two electrolytic caps, which seem to have low MTTF, the remainder being SMD. Straightforward to do a continuity check.

Air gapped. Are Dahua's particularly susceptible to hacking?

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

Its a thermal runaway problem. Using thermal paste, interface pads, and aluminum sheets resolved the issue for daytime setting, covering only the Ambarella SoC and adjacent IC. However, for nighttime setting, the IR circuit components generate more heat, which is resolved by running a fan while...

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

Furthering the mystery, using VBR, or smartCodec, or H265, or bitrates higher than 1280kbps appears to correlate to failure modes. Possibly thermal/overheating problem, and I wonder if the oozing thermal interface pads are gapped from the aluminum housing heatsink.

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

New failure mode? The recording interval spontaneously (untouched camera) to a fixed 8 minutes until reboot. This fixed interval recording starts from 10-12 hours after reboot, so daily reboots are insufficient. BTW, this camera has always required daily reboots since purchase in Oct2018 to...

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

It's Alive! Tested all the caps that I could get probes on (some SMD parts are tiny), and all were good. Turns out the cam spontaneously bricked, as no changes were done to the system during the time it intermittently failed. Used @cor35vet instructions from "Dahua IPC unbricking / recovery over...

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

There is a coin cell battery on the camera board, 2.7V. Appears to be spot welded to leads and soldered to board. Might be the 3V nominal version of the below, with 100 cycle life. https://www.mouser.com/new/seiko-instruments/seiko-ms-lithium-battery/

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

@bigredfish Thanks for response. I did notice that the silica pack indicators were brown, IIRC they are blue when still able to absorb moisture. I didn't notice any obvious moisture problems, but the camera board (with the Ambarella chip) had a yellow pad that had a slight sheen of fluid...

    Typical Dahua cameras failures?

My IPC-HDW5231R-ZE, purchased from Empire Tech Andy in 2018, has failed. Failure began with intermittent loss of configuration, degrading to dropping off the network. Tried a different PoE supply, and 12V supply with no joy resulting. Opened it up on my bench, did the reset procedure, which...

@Wildcat_1 Unusual image is seen during playback. Immediately after the artifact, (single frame stepping) the video segment ends. The snapshots attached to email did show a man standing there.

No "interval" option in SMTP(Email) Menu

My HDW5231R-ZE running the aug2018 fw does not display a limit to IVS email. As I've configured, it sends a burst of 3 images when intrusion IVS triggered in any zone. False positives for intrusion IVS for my system is ~<10%. Possibly adding an image of your zones would help the forum to debug...

Camera that can see license plates in the night

A consideration for the z5 vs z12 is the need for external IR illumination. The HDW5231R-ZE I have at the driveway apron captures more plates using both external and internal IR sources than either alone. AFAIK, larger zoom is great (all else equal), but the IR doesn't zoom, so if illumination...

Set up another camera to watch for tampering on first camera, as well as increase FOV. I have 10 configured this way (yes, I'm retired with plenty o'time -- and I've caught attempted tampering this way). Alternately, rig a PIR (or other) sensor to turn on the IR illuminator only when tripped.

Caught a mail thief with LPR camera

@wtimothyholman -- thanks for the response, at least I'm not alone in my frustration. I'm also hoping that my cameras have deterrent value, but as the perps see no penalties even with imagery, I wonder if they'll stop caring about cams. At least my Sheriff's office provides coffee and pastries...

Caught a mail thief with LPR camera

Has anyone had success getting residential mail theft (or burglaries) prosecuted using video evidence? Around these parts (SFBay California), porch pirates and burglaries seem rampant, yet there's very few perps apprehended. Elected officials don't help, as they've legislated that it takes a...

    Dahua IVS Intrusion detection algorithm

I'm observing some surprising false negatives from an IPC-HDW5231R-ZE -- one of ~100 vehicles passing on the street not alerting. Generally occurs during daylight for vehicles travelling at ~20mph about 30feet from the camera at a 20degree angle of incidence from the lens axis. I have another...

    IVS Tripwire Notification

IVS settings look OK. I meant to ask for Network > SMTP -- just make sure Attachment box is checked. As an aside, the IVS Rule Type "Intrusion" works better for me (and some others on this forum) than tripwire, meaning better true positive and lower false negatives. However, since you are...

@giomania I did factory reset while benchtesting, but with my old SDcard. IIRC, I didn't with the new 128GB u3 Samsung card. Is this a known issue that would be resolved by factory reset with new card? If so, I'll dismantle the mounting and do the needful.

Well done! I'm set up with Cam only with SD card (U3 Samsung), so can't help with NVR, and I've forgotten my misspent youth in pre-SDcard days. BTW, if you want better cyber-sec for your camera, use a google app password to generate a unique camera-only password. This helps limit your google...
