So I've read that if the Hikvision NVR states it supports 5MP / 3MP / 1080p.... etc. and it doesnt state 4MP specifically, that 4MP cameras will not work on those NVR's despite them stating up to 5MP. Is this true? Any idea what NVR to get for 4MP cams?

From what I've read. The 7608N/NI (7600NI-E2/N-E2 series) will not record at 4MP, but if you turn the resolution down to one it can support, it will work.

They do have a new NVR which will do 4MP, I believe its the 7600NI-I2 series. But then again that supports 12/8/6/5/4/3/2mp/720p cameras.

7608N/NI will 100% record 4MP. What you are talking about is compatibility issues with Chinese xxx5 cameras which don't work with the 7600 series for PoE below v3.3.4

The 7600NI-I2 has no PoE ports, so it won't have an issue with the xxx5 cameras and PoE compatibility.

What about the 7716N-E4/16P multi language with English version DS-2CD2042WD-I? That NVR has POE ports but I'm not sure what firmware, and it states it supports 6/5/3/1080p/720p. I might end up selling my NVR i ordered and just order a PC with BI so I can get these all to work together.

Needs to be v3.3.4

If you are getting international spec cameras, then spend a little more and get international spec NVR. It'll save you a headache later.

7716NI-E4/16P is what you want. But only if you are planning on more than 8 cameras.

I thought the ni is the English version as most American sellers sell that one. The N is only sold internationally. And I'm going to have 12-16 cameras

N is Chinese, NI is International.

Ok, 12 to 16 and 4MP, 7732NI-E4/16P might be a better option.

So I got the 7716n-e4/16p NVR (multi language).

4 - DS-2cd2032f-I 3mp bullet (multi language)
4 - DS-2cd2132f-is 3mp dome (multi language)
4 - DS-2cd2042wd-I 4mp bullet (English)
2 - DS-2cd2032-I 3mp bullet (multi language)

Will this all work. I'm more interested if the 4mp cams will work on that NVR since 4mp isn't listed. I read another form and someone said since 4mp wasn't listed, it didn't display any video for them until they turned it down. That's why I'm contemplating getting a core i7 desktop instead with BI.

I probably read that same one, but I had a look at it again and they were running a 7108.

Theres not much info on the 3.3.2/3.3.4 firmware so yeah it probably might work. If not, I'm sure you could sell the NVR, keep the HDD for the BI setup.

If all the cameras are in English and the NVR is in English then 99% it will work, 0.5% it doesn't work and we can get it to work. If you are worried about the other 0.5% then don't buy Chinese versions and only get International versions.

There's lots of us running 3.3.2 or 3.3.4 with lots of different cameras. If it didn't work we would say downgrade to 3.0.8 as that's guaranteed to work.

The compatibility issues people are having are with xxx5 cameras and lying sellers saying that they are the replacement versions of 2xx2 cameras. Just steer away from xxx5 for now unless you like to tinker.

@Michelin Man and @Del Boy

Thanks guys. I think I'll wait and see when they get here and then decide what to do from there based on your info. Only reason I went with these cams is I have a limited budget for the whole system. Otherwise I would have just bought all English versions. I tried to get everything on Aliexpress and dhgate but it didn't work out. So I ended up on eBay.

Is the 2CD2342WD compatible with the previous generation 7604NI-SE/P ? Will it record at 4Mpixel resolution at 20 or 25fps?

Don't know but the xxx5 definitely won't work.

4MP @ 20fps which is more than plenty for 99% of us!

Del Boy, what is it again about the xxx5 series that don't work on the 7600NI(E2) series, apart from the PoE not working.

EDIT: Added E2

Works with v3.3.4 but if you try earlier versions then apparently the PoE doesn't work (I've had same issue with non-Hikvision cameras, Hikvision PoE isn't PoE!). Mine doesn't arrive until this week (fingers crossed). I will then test it to see what it works with that I have.

It will work if you plug 12v DC in, from my experience with non-Hikvision cameras. Either way, I'll have 7608 tested soon.
