I'm putting together a surveillance system, and have already purchased a Hikvision 2132 and 2532. I also have a DS-7608 NVR. I haven't installed the system yet, just burning it in...

Just saw this Q-See system at Costco (Mods, please delete if this is not allowed):
http://www.costco.com/.product.100149972.html?cm_sp=RichRelevance-_-itempageVerticalRight-_-CategorySiloedViewCP&cm_vc=itempageVerticalRight|CategorySiloedViewCP

So, now I'm thinking of getting this system to use with my 2 Hikvision cameras, and save the DS-7608 for a second installation. The description of the Q-See claims ONVIF compatibility. On the list of brands supported, Hikvision is not listed. I'm assuming this is due to Hikvision being an OEM. Went to the onvif site and found that the 2132 was certified, but could not find an entry for the 2532.

These cameras should interface to the Q-See, correct? I assume the Q-See system is probably not as solidly built as the Hikvision, but the Costco price for the entire system with cameras is equivalent to the cost of my Hikvision nvr alone. What am I giving up with this approach?

You cannot rely on onvif to confirm compatibility. While it may display the image it may have issues with motion detection. Also that NVR is limited to 2mp so if you intended on running 3mp then it wont work. That is a very good deal for a basic system. If you were asking about the system alone i would recommend it..but not to use the NVR with hikvisions.
Since its costco, you can always buy it and test it out..see if it meets your needs..

Also nellys has this hikvision 4 camera NVR http://www.nellyssecurity.com/recorders/nvrs/4-channel/hikvision-ds-7104ni-sl-w-4-channel-mini-wifi-nvr.html
They also have a 5% promo going for our members. http://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php?1807-IPCT-Members-Only-Promo!
It is unclear if the NVR is limited to 1080p per camera or not..you would have to ask.
They also have the 8 port (like yours) for 299 http://www.nellyssecurity.com/recorders/nvrs/8-channel/hikvision-ds-7608ni-se2-8p-8-channel-poe-plug-n-play-hi-def-nvr-recorder.html

Thanks, fenderman. I didn't realize that the Q-See nvr would limit my 3 MP to 2 MP recording, good catch. My DS-7680 came from Nellys. I will check out the DS-7104 you pointed me to, to see whether it is good enough for my application.

Another good rule of thumb most of us learned the hard way, if you scrimp now you will just be paying more later, read reviews and ask questions, I could have saved a ton of money if I did that first

I'm sure that 99% of us found that one out... saving money was most expensive thing I did, and did and did... until the junk / spare camera draw grew into a cupboard, then I figured it out.
