Windows 10 crashed last night. I apparently have a hardware problem buried someplace in the machine, it does it even after a clean Windows install. But, this morning, after a crash and hard restart, BI service crashes and restarts, to repeat the crash and restart. I tried reinstalling 5.4.904, but no change. Computer is working fine,

Any suggestions?

Edit: I'm going backwards. After trying different things including removing the BI5 directory, down loading the latest full install, and now I can't even get the program to run without the service. :banghead::banghead::banghead: Yeah, I emailed support.

It APPEARS that removing the old GT 730 video card, because I suspected it of causing problems with Windows 10, created the issue. The MB has an onboard HD 400 video chip. It worked yesterday for 12+ hours, then started after Windows crashed. Of course, as soon as I installed the card, the computer froze up. But at least I can get it running, and try removing all H265 instances and see if that helps.

That is an old computer. Start with setting all cameras to h.264. also disable hardware acceleration in BI.
It is an old computer. But, it works fine, running 10 cameras at around 20% CPU. And with 16 GB of ram, it never really struggles. It is Gen 3 and MS has said you have to have Gen 7 to run Windows 11.

Many people have experienced with 5.4.7.X and above crashes with the system that has been related to Hardware Acceleration with the GPU as part of the CPU.

Previous versions of BI would disable HA if there was a conflict, but so much is going on now in the newer versions that it doesn't seem to do so automatically. I have been sitting at the console and watching cameras and all of a sudden some will rainbow out and in the log is says HA conflict. Sometimes the camera comes back, sometimes it didn't. Turning HA off fixed it.

Either rollback to 5.4.6.3 or change everything to H264 and disable HA.

If you have optimized your system and are using the substreams, HA isn't as critical as it used to be.

I have been using HA for several years, without recognizing it as an issue. HA along with my suspect video card Win10 driver may be causing the random lockups. I have disabled HA, changed everything to 264 (not H or B, just straight 264) got it back up and running on the integrated video system (GT 730 removed), and will see what it does. Thanks to you and @SouthernYankee for the responses.

Has the hardware issue you mentioned been fixed?
Apparently not. I removed the separate GT730 graphics card and got it running on the HD 4000 on board graphics system. Based on @SouthernYankee 's suggestion, disabled HA and changed everything to 264, BI now loads and runs fine. However, the computer froze this afternoon with a web browser open. I have done a clean Windows install, replaced the PS, removed the graphics card and an unused wifi card. No luck...But, BI appears to be working fine! I would add, CPU is still running less than 20% with 7 cameras @ 4 MP, 3@2MP, and one at 0.3 MP, without HA, but otherwise optimized and direct to disk.

You really need to do the hardware issue, if you have multiple sticks of RAM then try with a single stick at a time to see if it stops locking up.
Yeah, after removing all cards (wifi and video), swapping out ram, one stick at a time, re-installing Windows 10 from scratch (media creation tool, delete everything option), it still freezes up after 10 minutes to 20 hours. My solution involves EBay.... A "new" Dell i7-6700 coming Friday. Probably not a whole lot faster than my current 3770, but at least it should run! ;)
