Blue Iris 4 crashes every day

I was running BI3 on an older PC (Core 2 Duo). With the addition of my 5th camera, I was now consuming almost 100% of resources. It was fairly stable, but it did crash once every week or so.

So I moved to a new PC (Win7 Pro, Asus Z97 Pro, Intel i7 4790K) and purchased BI4. Now, while consuming only 15% of resources, the system crashes every day. The PC is set to "never sleep." I have turned off audio and motion detection. I thought things would be better, but instead they are worse.

If anyone else is having this problem, I would appreciate some help.

Are you running the latest .18 update?
Is the entire computer crashing or just blue iris? Is there an error message?

Yes, I am running .18.
It is the entire computer. Sometimes I find the system frozen with no display, a dark screen. Then I have to do a hard reset. Sometimes I find that the OS has restarted.

FYI, here is the log from last night:

Check the windows event viewer to catch the culprit...in the past when I've seen blue iris crash it would only crash the application not the pc...the crashes could be unrelated to blue iris.
Side note, .19 is available now.

Sounds like it isn't as much BI as it is the system. Windows logs will give you more info about the crash, I hope.

Is BI4 is involved in processing WMI events?

I have stopped the BI4 application for a few days. The system is running continuously, as it did for several days before installing BI4.

The Windows logs after each crash don't reveal much. Two of them are interesting. One says:

"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0xfffffa800e12a028, 0x00000000be000000, 0x000000000100110a). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 011015-7566-01."

Neither Microsoft nor I have any idea what that means. More interesting is this:

"Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2"
because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected."

Is this the work of BI4? Did this error cause the system to crash, or is it the result? Does anyone know?

Thank you paarlberg. The linked sites suggest that when a system crashes only while a certain application is running (BI4 in this case) that the application "may be somehow linked to the root cause." That's what I think too. I just wish that I knew how.

Look deeper, could be hardware related. Mainly memory or cpu as BI puts a load on both. Silly things like a cpu heatsink can cause issues.

Indeed, faulty hardware can be hell to deal with especially if the failures cannot be reliably reproduced in a short amount of time.

If your system came fully assembled with a full-system warranty from Dell or whoever, then at least they will be able to help you get it fixed.

If you built it yourself or have no useful warranty then here are some things you may want to try:

IntelBurnTest
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/intelburntest.html

This is kind of a general-purpose stress test that should max out the CPU and put significant load on the other parts. It runs in windows and may assist in reproducing your crashes in a timely manner so you can spot patterns and maybe narrow down the cause.

MemTest86+
http://www.memtest.org/

In my experience, bad ram is fairly common. I have had 3 systems with bad RAM caught by this app, all in the past 5 years. To test the RAM, run this 12-48 hours or until an error is shown. Unfortunately it requires you boot off a flash drive, so you will need an empty flash drive and you will not be able to use the computer for anything else while this is running. Usually if your RAM is bad, you will see at least 1 error within 24 hours.

To all who have a problem with BI 3.xx crashing. I run windows 7 Pro 64/32 and since the first day I installed BI 3 it would run for 15 to 30 minutes and then would crash and freeze the computer. Fenderman and the BI developer said there was something wrong with my computer and not the BI software. Not one other thing had a problem, only when BI was running. I spent hours trying to figure out what was causing the problem for over a year. All I heard was reinstall windows, ram was bad, processor problems, and reinstall BI. Tested all possible malfunction and found nothing causing problem with computer. Almost dumped the whole 3.XX BI software. Then decided to take a chance and upgrade to the new 4.0 64-bit. 4.0 has worked perfectly since it was installed. Some major glitch was a part of 3.0 BI. To all that are having freeze and lock up problems with the 3.xx BI software my suggestion is to upgrade to 4.0 and stop the headaches.

Glad it worked out..did you reinstall BI3 as part of the trouble shooting? if not then that could explain why 4 works...
Also keep in mind that v4 uses different windows components particularly with 64 bit...That could explain why its not crashing now..
it could also have been an issue with some other software on your system..
I can assure you that there is no glitch in V3...I had over 20 systems running v3 without a hitch...still have many running v3...thousands of others did not have these crashes..
Regardless v4 is a nice upgrade...I am glad its working for you.
