First let me say thanks to your awesome forum, it's been a great use in my attempts at trying to piece together a simple (well it started out that way) 2 camera system for my home. But after all the hardware finally got here I realized I don't know networking as well as I thought and it's been years since the cisco / a+ classes haha.

Here is the current mess

http://imgur.com/a/Q9GCV
NVR: HP Elite 8300 Ultra Slim i7-3770S, 8gb 500gb Factory Refurb
Cameras: 2 x HikVision 3mp DS-2CD2032-I-4MM PoE (bh photo, so hopefully they're real)

Router/Modem: The newest Comcast Xfinity all in one that comes with the 150mbps plan

Switch: NETGEAR ProSAFE GS108PE 8-Port Gigabit PoE Web Managed (Plus) Switch with 4 PoE Ports 53W

Software: BlueIris and a year of DynDNS

So the problem is BlueIris isn't finding the cameras with the find feature and I have no idea what ip to route where. All I'm trying to do is view these awesome cameras and it's killing me that for the past two days they've just been sitting here mocking me.

The cameras are activated via the SDDP software that came with the HikVision

Also bought an Anker USB 3.0 Gigabit Adapter as someone suggested it would be better to have the HP have one cat5e that goes to the xfinity modem and one cat5e that goes to the switch. Tried both setups and no luck. Also someone suggested I buy a dedicated modem and router, which I'm contemplating as the strength of the xfinity unit sucks anyway, but that's another $250 and at this point I'm already in the $1000+ area.

Anyway here is a few more pictures of the setup/mess that may help I guess...

Anyway

tl:dr

Help me view my cameras through the BlueIris software locally and so I can use the DynDNS (already setup) to view them with the Andriod/Ios BlueIris app and I'll paypal you some moneys, I'm not really sure what's a good amount but would say $20 bucks be worth the trouble? Anyway if you can walk me through this I'll send moneys over right away. I have an old # that's being disconnected in a few days so if it'd be easier I don't mind just msging you the cell # if that'd speed things up.

Thanks for your time!

The ultra slim is not best for NVR as there is no room for a full size drive..Also hopefully that system was under 200 as its several years old.
The 2032 bullets will give you issues with spiders at night...the turret is a much better option.
Dont user the anker adapter...simply plug the pc into the switch...dont know who would give you that silly recommendation...
You dont need blue iris to find the cameras...make sure their ip addresses are the same subnet as the router then manually enter them into blue iris...if you cannot access the camera via browser then blue iris cant find them either. Dont pay anyone for support, this forum is free.

Do you know the ip address of the HP PC, and of the switch?
I don't have a hikvision camera, so I don't know what IP address it uses but they need to be in the same range.

The cameras come with a little booklet that tells you what their Static IP is.

Sometimes is 192.168.1.64

Plug the cameras into the POE Switch, plug in your Laptop to your switch.

Configure your laptop to be in that LAN.
For example you can setup your laptop with a static ip of:
192.168.1.33
255.255.255.0

no gateway and no dns

from your browser hit the IP address of the camera, and configure it with a static IP of your LAN.

Change your laptop static back to DHCP.

Let me know if you need step by step help.

According to this site: https://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/internet/comcast-supported-routers-gateways-adapters/

Your gateway default IP should be 10.0.0.1, normally their DHCP pool is the entire subnet.
You would go into your gateway(Xfinity modem) and change the DHCP pool.
If your pool is 2-255, change it to something like 2-200.
Ip your cameras as 10.0.0.201 and 10.0.0.202

Huh, didn't think about the spiders thing. Well too late now, the cameras are here so it is what it is. Down the road I'll buy some turret style cameras. I read either on here or somehwere else that the bullet cameras have better optics, hence why I chose them.

The optics are more or less the same; it is the bubble domes you have to worry about most; they often have problems with IR bleeding or scattering on a dirty dome bubble and causing a foggy, low-contrast effect in your video.

Tried sending you a private msg but alas no good I need 5 posts to have that ability.

So I plugged in the hp into the switch and now just the switch is talking to the router/modem. The HP does have internet but the cameras are not being found and honestly I'm not sure what I'm doing or how to assign ips.

I suggest you edit out your phone number soon. lol. Even if you are getting rid of it, no need to torment the next owner of the number.

Yup, good call. And josa is being the goddamn MVP over here, if there is a 'helpful to the community' award he gets my vote.

Regarding your router.....

Comcast is charging you at least $10 per month for cable modem rental. You can buy a good cable modem for about $80. It will only take a call to Comcast to enable it and then return your existing modem and they will stop charging you for it. That means you pay for it in about 8 months. Add a new router compatible with DD-WRT and you will have a sweet setup that you can fully control.

As a secondary advantage (you might see it differently), I suspect you are currently hosting an xfinity hotspot without you knowing it. They claim it uses none of your bandwidth and is secure. I'm not so confident in either of those claims.

Just a thought.

ETA: If you are cash strapped, here is a combo modem/router. I have several TP-Link routers and I like them. Not sure about the combo.

I was able to get him going. He will soon be addicted to Security Cameras like the rest of us.
