I've been using the HDW4231EM-ASE as my budget Starlight camera, but with this new generation of cameras coming out, I'm thinking it may have some competition.

I'm interested in the T2431T-AS-S2. I'd usually be turned off of a 4MP 1/3" Sensor camera, but it seems to be performing well at night, as it does claim to be a Starlight Camera. Does anyone have a T2431T-AS-S2, as well has a HDW4231EM-ASE to do a comparison between the two? I don't need a big formal review, just even to hear how you feel the night picture quality is between the two. The pictures I've seen of the 2431T have looked good, but they often have alot of ambient light in them, and it is tough to tell picture quality between two different people as no one controls for actual light levels.

Any other camera that people are using in place of 4231EM-ASE?

There have been multiple posts directly comparing 2MP starlight cameras (same 1/2.8 sensor as the HDW4231EM-ASE) with the 5442 series, and every time the 5442 is clearly superior with the low light images. I did it myself side-by-side with a 5231R-Z. Not a direct answer to your question I realize.

Any feedback is great. I have been looking at the 5442 series and will bring some in, but as they are $50 more than the 4231, they are headed the other direction from the T2431T, which is $80. I need a lower cost camera than the 5442 to start out with, as alot of people aren't going to shell out the money for a few 5442's.

In the past the 1/3" 4MP cameras haven't been received favorably. The T2431T looked like it had much better results, but it's been pretty quiet here on that camera, I can't find much information. Most comparisons are to other cheap cameras. I'm wondering how it stacks up against a 1/2.8" 2MP Starlight sensor.

See post #2 in this thread. I don't have a HDW4231EM-ASE, but do show a comparison with the IPC-T5442TM-AS, both in 2.8mm.
