I've decided to move my BI install from a Windows 7 VM running under Parallels on a MacBook Pro to a dedicated Windows PC.

My question for @fenderman, or any others who care to comment is, what is the best bang for the buck PC to try and buy at a reasonable price that would work well and take advantage of BI hardware acceleration? I currently have 3 cameras, 2 3MP and 1 4MP. 4 cameras would be my max though for this system.

I would also like to know which Windows OS would be preferable. Finally, I'll need to know what's involved with migrating my BI install from the current Windows 7 VM to the new PC. Thanks @fenderman and everyone!

All you need is an i5 haswell/skylake...search the forum for optiplex elitedesk...a skylake i5-6500 can be had for 300. Export/import, simple.

Export from BI settings. Deactivate BI. Install BI on new system. Activate. Import settings. You may then need to fix your folder paths for clip saving and whatnot. If you want to move over your existing clips/alerts/etc, you can do that too but you should have BI regenerate the clip database after.

Windows 8 or 10 would be ideal.

+1

Here is how to transfer Blue Iris to a new computer, step-by-step...

1) Blue Iris Options > About > Export Settings (on the old computer)

2) Blue Iris Options > About > "Deactivate" (on the old computer)

3) Install BI on the new computer

4) Enter your Blue Iris License Key to activate Blue Iris(on the new computer)

5) Blue Iris Options > About > "Inport v4 .reg" (on the new computer)

@Q2U... thanks! I'll do this as soon as I get my PC. So what do you think about the one I linked above?

The one you linked above is a better deal than most I find. I see it is out of stock now so I hope you got one :)

When you say a skylake i5-6500 can be had for $300, are you referring to just the CPU or system? I can't seem to find anything less then $550.

Entire system. Search the forum for elitedesk and optiplex....bought an elitedesk 800 g2 with i5-6500 for 320 with ssd via ebay. 3 year next business day warranty included. US based support from HP.

Yea I've seen your posts about searching the forum and I have been doing that. Just not having any luck finding those prices. I'll keep looking. Thanks.

Guys, I found a Dell Optiplex 390 for $50. It has a Core i5-2400 3.1 GHz processor. Would this PC be okay to run 3 4MP cams?

yes it will....you cant really beat 50 bux...if you end up wanting more cams or a more powerful system you can just give it away to an underprivileged kid/school...

Thanks @fenderman... Exactly what I was hoping for. Will this processor support acceleration?

it should since it has quicksync...though i seem to recall someone saying they could not see a difference in the second gen with HA...but some folks say that about third/4th gen as well.
