Camera Layout and System; New Build

Hi,

I am renovating a new house and looking to install some camera's and not really sure what features/system would be best.
I have attached a site plan of the building, all cameras will be installed on ground floor which goes 3.0m high. The rear of the property does not require any camera/vision as it has a 2.1m fence and the neighbour has a elevated pool and might complain about the camera overlooking in his property (already did complaints in planning phase of build). The two front locations seem like it would have a good vision of the front entrances and the surrounding street.

One major need is a system that is easy to use (but hopefully doesn't skimp on features) as I will be selling the house and the last thing I want is someone calling me up constantly asking questions or not even using the system due to its complexity.

Budget for the system would be max $2,000 AUD (Not including installation), thanks for any responses.

1) you need two cameras on the garage, one on each side mounter no higher than the top of the door.
2) you need two to three cameras for the front door. One at door bell height pointing out, one pointing down at the package drop area. Maybe one inside covering the door when opened.
3) cameras inside covering the public areas.
4) do two Ethernet drops per camera sight.
5) do Ethernet drops in the back, you will need them later.

Cameras are for surveillance to get information for after the fact.

Please read the IP Cam Talk Cliff Notes and other items in the IP Cam Talk Wiki. (read on a real computer, not a phone). The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Quick start
1) If you do not have a wired monitored alarm system, get that first
2) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras if you need good low light cameras.
3) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
4) Do not use wifi cameras.
5) Do not use cloud storage
6) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
7) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
8) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest, Arlo cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
10) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
11) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
12) use a test mount to verify the camera mount location. My test rig: rev.2
13) (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 7ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.
14) Use a router that has openVPN built in (Most ASUS, Some NetGear....)

17) Camera Sensor size, bigger is general better Sensor Size Chart
18) Camera lens size, a bigger number give more range but less field of view. Which Security Camera Lens Size Should I Buy?

Only you can decide what features/system you need. Stating that the system needs to be 'easy to use' is ambiguous. Unless you are willing to spend the time and effort to understand the information in the documentation provided in the links @SouthernYankee supplied, you would be better off getting a local professional involved. 'Easy to use' is a relative thing.

That stated, you have five exterior doors plus the garage door. In most places, forced entry is done via a door, rarely a window. You need to cover the doors well.

The most critical part is getting the cabling done right...

I do not think you have enough locations.

Especially should have one face level by the front door, and 1-2 cat6 at doorbell level..

The 'ease of use' was not for me, i have sufficient technical know how to tinker and play with the cameras to suit my needs. Although as this house will be sold i can't say the same for the potential owners hence the 'ease of use'.
I use a dahua system and it is not the friendliest (smart app or computer setup for viewing)

Regarding the camera locations, I am trying to make them as discrete as possible. The house is a victoria style house (heritage) and having a camera mount mid wall will ruin the aspect of the home and thus resale value.

The whole rear of the house has 2.1m high boundary walls, neighbours have fully gated fronts thus greatly reducing potential issues arising from the rear (simplified an attacker would first have to jump neighbour front gates, somehow climb over garages or the house to access their backyard then jump the 2.1m fence to access my backyard).
This along with my strict overlooking restrictions prompted me to not consider cameras at the rear other than the ones outlined.

P.S. my budget limits me to about a good 4ch system

Still, when remodeling you should put in the cat6 cable runs even if you only want to go cheaper so that you can make more profit on the sale...

Sorry for the hiatus on this thread, busy completing the build.
Will be ordering the cameras either before christmas or early next year.
Cat6 has been run.

I have been doing a bit of research on systems and found this.

Would this be a solid setup?
Enough bandwidth for all four cameras running at same time?

I went through the same process recently but for a new build that I'm now living in. My job was to lay the cable, agreed with the builder, and thank god I did. I have cables everywhere but not all are used, though nice to know I can install cameras later. Did you run ethernet cable to all possible locations as suggested above, in the scheme of things, ethernet cable is relatively cheap. I do understand though that if you employed someone, especially here in Australia, they tend to screw us for so-called extra runs.

I can't comment on your camera selection as I went with Dahua type cameras, have two installed already and currently have on order from Andy 8 x 4mp cameras (4 x 2.8mm, 3 x 3.6mm, 1 x 6mm) and 6 x wall mount brackets for < AUD $2,000. Expected delivery is tomorrow. It's probably apples and oranges in comparison. I'm using Blue Iris to control everything.

Yes, ran extra wiring to other locations too but will only be installing 4 cameras.
2 front both side of house (wide view)
2 on either side on the property (narrow view)
Not sure what mm to get or what would suit.
Will just be running to DVR at a cetralised hub with ethernets, tv, internet in and power, so they can easily setup something there like blue iris to control everything but I won't be including that.

I have dahua at home and am relatively happy although the system interface seems a bit clunky (especially playback of recordings both on mobile app and through network) hence why deciding to go with HIK

For my narrow-side (1.8m brick wall to side fence, about 20m long) I opted for a 6mm focal length. It seems like we have similar setups. If I were to sell, I'd have to leave the server rack in place along with the patch panels (3 x 24). The rest of the equipment would be up for negotiation (additional to house sell or contracted in).
