Cancel Shadows deprecated

I noticed that the Cancel Shadows feature is listed as deprecated. Anyone know what it was replaced or outdated by?

I don't think it has a direct replacement. Likely it simply never worked as well as intended and was deemed not worth the trouble of maintaining the capability.

It makes a small (but noticeably) positive difference in daylight and the exact opposite at night.
