Its happening here too to some extent, Youtube, Twitter, Paypal, Facebook are all playing PC police and blacklisting you if they do not like your content. We are always one election away from this happening in this country. I have read that our beloved google is actually helping the Chinese in accomplishment of this. I believe certain group of Politicians are watching this model and licking their chops.

The US government is not doing that. As you mention, it's private corporations and they have banned very few compared to the mass banning in China.

The Chinese government has blocked 10,000+ websites including Google, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, the NY Times, Slack, Bloomberg, BBC, Wikipedia and many more (see list of notable sites blocked in China). Not only do they block complete websites, they censor specific terms. For example, if IP Cam Talk was hosted inside the PRC, the Chinese government would selectively censor any post made and would have access to the real names and identities of everyone on the site, with the power to punish anyone who said anything they did not like.

The scale of China's censorship is hard to fathom for people in the West.
