Clips Database, SSD or USB 3.0 ?

I have a Synology Diskstation which has a provision for another hard drive and USB 3.0 ports.
Which would be the fastest to hold the clips?

You need to clarify...
the database files should always be local on the fastest drive...
the clips storage (which is different from the database) should ideally also be local but can be placed on nas or usb....both less reliable than local storage.

none. It should be local on your fastest local disk. preferably an ssd. They are not large.
