Im totally new to ip cameras and would just like a answer to a simple question. Two weeks ago my daughter got her shop fitted with ip cameras. Theres also a monitor with the shop on screen. Now the cameras/wiring ect were set up first and the monitor wasnt set up with any views of the shop. Im wondering if during this time the cctv would of still been recording or would it not record until it was set up on the monitor? Reason i ask is we have had a customer complaint of rude behaviour and it was litrally around the time the cctv was being installed but before the screen monitor was set up and we are both clueless and would just like to look back on it during that time. Her husband is away on business and he deals with that sort of thing. Thank you.

When is her husband back? Depending on the size of the hard drive in the DVR (assuming there is one?), the cameras may overwrite old footage if the hard drive gets full.

Chances are they were recording before the "monitor" was set up, as you don't need a monitor viewing the cameras in order for them to be recording. The cameras just need a DVR or PC connected to them actually saving the footage.

But without knowing how the cameras are set up, you may be SOL. Can the person who installed the cameras help you out?
