Greetings,

What do you guys think of the Dahua DHI-NVR4208-4K? There are quite a few on eBay for good prices. Do these have region issues like the Hiks?

Just wondering before I try one.

Thanks!

I don't have an issue with Dahua NVRs but you didn't tell us what you are looking for in an NVR.

If you go the Ebay route ask questions to the Ebay seller to protect yourself in case you get not what was advertised. Even though they post "All Sales Final" you can still usually return something if there is a problem. Ask for example: System version, Build date etc. (They might give you the serial #)

Depending on what cameras you are using you also might want to see if the NVR supports IVS (Intelligent Video Surveillance) smart detection like tripwire or intrusion.
Some of the older firmware they are selling might not.

The bottom line is you really need to know your stuff when it comes to buying from these vendors whether it's ebay, Amazon, ali or whatever..

Just beware none of the sellers on Ebay are authorized Dahau dealers. If you have any problems with your NVR don't expect any assistance from the seller.

I have the dahau NVR 4208-4k, with several problems. It is a noisy unit because of the fan. If I had known how loud the fan was I wouldn't have purchased this model. In addition the NVR's VGA output port is dead, flickering problems, and not recording certain times during day.

How crucial do you think the fan is? I don't hear it ramp up or down on demand. When you open a case it looks like a very simple fan to help cool the hard drive. I'm curious if maybe you could unplug the fan as long as there is a lot of open area around the unit for radiant cooling. I think it would probably do fine as long as the room stayd cool where it is installed.

It certainly is noisier than I was anticipating but it's not terrible.

There are usually 3 fans in these model Dahua NVR's. The CPU, power supply, and case fan. Any one of them could be noisy. They are 2 pin so they run at a constant speed. You might get away with taking out a case fan but I wouldn't recommend removing the others.. :(

A case fan is pretty easy to replace with a quiet one.

A power supply fan is a little more involved but can be done. https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/6580-Some-(Dahua)-QC8816-NVR-fan-noise-louder-than-others

One CPU fan that was noisy I managed to get a tiny bit of oil behind the fan with one of those ink refill bottles with the long needle.

That was on a Q-See NVR (Dahua)

I also have a NVR5416-16P-4KS2 that came with very quiet fans.. ☺

The systems are engineered with the fans for a reason. It would be better to replace the fan with a less noisy one than to disconnect it. It could be there for redundancy in case of a failure of another fan..who really knows.

Agree. I'm not one to change what they designed. But in certain applications where sound is an issue, there could be a work around where silence is more important then redundancy.

The hard drive is also a bit noisy.

I'm thinking of adding some sound absorbing material around the big box that will hold my NVR. It is a 6'x4'2'box with lots of room inside, but the bottom has some gaps, so thought sound material would absorb some of the sound from leaving the big box in the bedroom.https://www.amazon.com/12-Pack-Acoustic-Panels-Soundproofing/dp/B00TP7C9YY/ref=pd_lpo_267_bs_t_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=039ZW5DMA31WMP6SEX7C

I didn't realize there were multiple fans. I am new to all of this, but trying to learn. The case fan was the only obvious one to me. The CPU fan I'd never mess with or the power supply. The case fan didn't seem to be outputting very warm air from either side. So, I figured it wasn't that warm inside the case.

Hey Cali, that would most likely cut down on the humm from the system, As long as you do not cut off the air flow you should be good.
