Fellas, the Dahua firmware update auto-check functionality may be faulty, as noted below...

I just purchased a IPC-HDBW4231F-AS from our friend @EMPIRETECANDY (thanks as always Andy, it came fast!).

I logged into this new camera with IE11 and noted that the currently installed firmware (Settings > Version) was displayed as: "2.622.0000000.23.R, Build Date: 2018-03-30".

I pressed the "auto-check upgrade" button (Settings > Upgrade > Online Upgrade) and the camera reported "It is the latest version."

"Hmmm" (thought I), I know that Andy just posted the latest firmware for this camera, and the version which Andy posted had a build date of "2018-05-23."

So I applied Andy's new firmware...
  • Before manual update: 2.622.0000000.23.R, Build Date: 2018-03-30
  • After manual update: 2.640.0000002.0.R, Build Date: 2018-05-23
As a result (and unless I'm missing something), I have to deduce that Dahua firmware update auto-check functionality may be faulty.

Auto-update IMO is a bad idea anyway. The infatuation of having the latest and greatest firmware, can bite you in the A__. How many posts have you seen where something gets even more broken, rather than fixed? Better to know what the new firmware does, before installing it. Also I don't want my cams or NVR going out to the Internet on their own. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I agree, But that wasn’t the point of this topic. Rather, this topic was intended to point out that the auto check update feature in this application was not functioning as designed.
