How does menu open if it's on an nvr? Or can it? Typically there is a preset such as 95 that opens the menu and you can navigate it with the ptz controls.

Don't have a Dahua NVR here to test it with. This from when I reviewed the Dahua NVR a while ago and it has a pan/tilt/zoom menu option.

Shock, you can use the PTZ's web interface to set presets and stuff. Preset 95 is for analog cameras. If you use PSS, you can also set presets, tours, etc.

Yeah that's what I figured. I'm sure within an nvr or pss you can set and call presets. And you figure the ptz controls in pss and nvr would move the camera? Or would it need 485 hooked up to the nvr? Does it have 485? But it's not like calling up a typical ptz menu because it's completely different. So I guess this camera would go directly to the network and you'd bring it into to an nvr channel with device search?

This camera does not have a rs485 port, so all motion is controlled via firmware. You can plug it directly in the NVR, it will ignore the PoE part, I know because I had it plugged into a PoE port on my switch. Then it's powered via the included power supply. Don't know of a Dahua PTZ that is standard PoE powered.

Understood. When you plug cameras into an nvr you (mostly) lose the ability to hit their Web interface. With this camera, losing that ability would be crippling for full control of all settings found in the menus. In newer nvr's, I see they have included a number of controls typically found in a cameras web interface, seemingly as a way to bridge that gap a bit. Mostly those controls pertain to fixed cameras, certainly nothing more for ptz. Maybe in pss there is some further access to menu control. But a ptz camera for the nvr user probably means that the camera should go straight to the network to have control over Web Access and then import the camera to a channel in the nvr for simple ptz control. This I'm guessing. Keep in mind there are nvr users who need to understand how ptz's integrate with them, like me lol. Ptz's need full menu access beyond simple ptz control at times, even in a pinch during crisis during target tracking.

Buying a 12x for your house is like buying a 40" TV and 6 months later wishing you should have bought the 60"! Open the wallet alittle more and get a 30x, you'll be much happier.

Cool. This 30x I know is amazing. I have a 27x now and it's great because I can zoom it to 12x and see what I'll be getting out of a 12x. I only felt I needed 27x because it was analog. But with megapixel, at 12x that will give me plenty of resolution to drill into snapshots further if needed. I don't have that much need to zoom past 12x in my area- I'm kind of constricted in my surrounds. Now, if I was on a 10th floor balcony overlooking queens, hell yeah- 30x, LOL! I would also bet that the dahua might fit my existing ptz mount as well. Heck, the camera may even be smaller than mine, which is my avatar btw. Certainly probably as light. I'll keep an eye open for the 12x. Thanks!

This one is SOLD, but still have a few new ones. The 12X is a good size for a typical homeowner that wants to see what's going on up to a block away. This is the 10X ACTi, but you can get an idea, just imagine 20% more zoom. This is at the end of my street, about 100m away to the stop sign.

With megapixel, the resolution offers much better detail to drill into beyond just what zoom you're at. This is my analog ptz at full wide, 12x, and 27x. For the plate I need 27x but with megapixel I could probably get the plate with 12x.

I think they will sell them for $100 over the non-IR version, or $599, but it's up to them. Sold a bunch of the 30X version.
