Here are some clips of the SD6AE830V-HNI from Dahua, their 4k PTZ

When I bought this cam over a year ago it was listed as a 8mp PTZ. Effective Pixels 3840 x 2160 8 Megapixels hence 830v, but it is also list 12Megapixel STARVIS™ CMOS on their site.
http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/productDetail/2841

It does have:
12mp @ 4000 x 3000 @ 20 fps bitrate 13824 kb/s
8.8mp @ 4096 x 2160 @ 30 fps 16384
8.2mp @ 3840 x 2160 @ 30 fps 16384
2mp @ 1920 x 1080 @ 30fps 10752

1280 x 1024 7680
1280 x 960 7168
1280 x 720 5632

At 12mp it gets a little pixilated when moving the cam around. So for me the sweet spot was 3840*2160 @30fps 10240 bitrate, recording to a 5208-4ks2 powered by 24VAC
Out of the ultra PTZ lineup this would be my least favorite PTZ that I own. It does have a great picture and real good IR but it falls short in a few areas
.
It does have the intelligence tracking ( tracking without rules ) but it doesn't mark the timeline like IVS will.
Auto track works pretty well in daylight but like most of the PTZ's it sucks ass at night.

This is a very good camera but my main complaint is the focus.
I don't know if I got a bad unit, but at full zoom the clarity is not there. If you back out it gets a little better.
The other issue is the focus speed at night. It has a hard time getting locked onto a focal point even at 1080.
It gets there, just not to quickly.

(3840*2160 if it gets uploaded by YouTube)

Thank you!!! You rock!

I guess I don't have a basis of comparison when you say it isn't the fastest at focusing or the sharpest at full zoom.

What would you say IS your favorite PTZ so I can look up some test footage from it for comparison.

My 10248 is the best overall cam I have but the 240 has the best picture I think..

WOW! I am pretty blown away by the 10248!
You're right the 240 image is pretty awesome but the auto focus is still a little slow compared to the 10248 even after the firmware update.

Do you think there will be much of a difference between the SD6AL830V and the SD6AE830V you shared samples of?
Does the laser make any real difference? It would be great if the laser could also be used to measure target distance and get the zoom and focus to snap to it a bit faster.

I can tell you the 240 is faster to focus than the 10248 in auto. The video samples may not show that but it is.
At full zoom and long range the 10248 will not complete the focus at night unless the Focus Limit is set from auto to 200M+
If you leave it at this setting for normal use, than the close up focus is out.

As far as AL vs AE, I think with the new cameras having more (and better) IR, the AL is a waste IMO.
It doesn't matter how far you can illuminate if the zoom only goes so far.
These cameras at paired pretty good with how much IR they have and how far they can see.
At times the IR can be too bright, but they have a correction slider that does well and also Smart IR.

Thank you for all the info. Its really unfortunate the 830 models are so slow to focus. You can really lose some great opportunities to capture clear identifiable shots of an individual.

I am placing two cameras at the only entry/exit point to our neighborhood. One with be for ANPR (LPR) and the other for identifiable video of individuals/cars.
Have you done any testing with any of these models involving a driver inside a vehicle? Looking through the windshield. Does that mess with the IR or focus at all?
I noticed the one sample shot you looked through a kitchen window and it eventually focused on the stove time inside, but noticed it took some time. Just wanted to get your take on that.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer all these questions and to create all this awesome test footage for us.
I am loving your Starlight 10248 so far. I guess the 240 is pretty darn good too but i may have the wrong impressions of it from the pre-firmware upgrade footage.
