I have a 16 channel NVR and have been swapping out old analog cameras to HDCVI but now channel 8 will not work no matter what type camera I plug into it. Is it possible something shorted in the NVR to that BNC connection?

Certainly is possible. I would use some contact cleaner on the male and female portions of the BNC's to make sure it's just not a bad connection.
Also test with a known good calb.e

Will give it a shot but I don't seem to even be able to get a fuzzy or snowy image from my old analog cameras, I tried swapping cables from other channels that are working but nothing on 8. I'll try some contact cleaner though.
