Everyone asking for reading license plate camera, the dahua special one is too expensive, but this one can be a good choice and not expensive.

Camera setting: 1/1000 on the shutter speed. I didn't change any other setting. Camera's are approx 25' from the road at 45° angle. This is testing pic by @TheSuperServer a motorbike's license plate No. can also be read in the night, not bad.

I am having a minor yet annoying issue with this camera set up for Numberplate recognition at full zoom. It is entirely possible to perfectly focus this camera in however it appears to refocus automatically when shifting from night back to day. The end result is this

Right of field.jpg
This is at the far right of field - Nice sharp focus

Centre Field.jpg
this is at centre field - as you can see it is slightly out of focus.

Left of Field.jpg

And at left of field we head back into sharp focus again. Now I know it is a depth of field issue and I am able to shift the focal point to eliminate it. What I would like to do is stop the camera changing the focal point again. Has anyone got any idea how to turn off auto focus? I suppose I can always send the camera a command to return it to the correct focal point every morning but I would rather it not move in the first place.

I've got the Dahua API V.1.00 Document but couldn't seem to find anything which would achieve what I am after.

I'm thinking I may have to get BI to send a focus command at sunrise and sunset. As you can see it isn't critical, the plate is still easily readable. It is more annoying that's all. I want to get it fixed before the .600 firmware with the cropped 720p comes out for this camera. I'm going to give Open ALPR a crack.

@SysconsciousAu, you can find the V1.56 HTTP API in this post from nayr.

Some of the settings in section 14.5.2 have potential. I haven't tried these in particular, and they may not actually actually do anything on your particular camera. I tried changing some other settings, and they didn't do much.
