All these NVR's are similar (white plastic box):

DH-NVR4108 / DH-NVR4104
NVR4108-P / NVR4104-P
DH-NVR1104-P
NVR1108-P

Some are 4 channel (4 camera) and some are 8 (the last number in the model number).

What I don't understand is, some have "DH" in the model name (and some don't). Some have "-p" in the model name (and some don't). And some are "410x" and others are "110x". What is difference between 41xx series and 11xx series? I think -P might be for PoE.

And the following are black box chassis (metal?):

NVR4104H-P (1 sata port, 4 cameras, 4 PoE)
DH-NVR420x (2 sata ports, x = number of cameras 8/16/32)

So the difference in the above 2 are clear (4 camera vs 8+ cameras, 1 sata vs 2 sata). Again one is "DH" and the other is not.

Lowest price "black box" NVR4104H-p (4 camera) is same price as "white-box" NVR4108-P (8 camera).

Do "black box" models have better performance?

Some model have in the name "DH" and some don't. Does that mean anything?

P means PoE.

DH means Dahua, they all are DH.

I have no idea what they mean by black box. It might be that one is Chinese model with English firmware the other isn't. Or could mean one is rack-mountable the other not.

4-- model\type example 4104,7104, 5104
1 - number of internal drives
04 - number of camerAs
-p - built in poe

Note 5xxx, 7xxx series nvr will not play/preview format above 1080p
4xxx will up to 5mp
4k up to 12mp

Blackbox should be rackmounTABle

For example, here's where I'm seeing these models:

http://stores.ebay.ca/pchomeestore168/Network-Video-Recorder-/_i.html?_fsub=11388506016

Is there any performance difference (CPU speed, internal ram, etc) between the white and black boxes (comparing 4-channel vs 4-channel or 8-channel vs 8-channel)?

Also- can a keyboard be connected to these boxes? (they mention "network keyboard" - I've never heard of that before)

I have USB dongle that allows a PS/2 mouse *and* PS/2 keyboard to be plugged into 1 USB port. Would these boxes work with such mouse and keyboard input like that?

When they say network keyboard, they mean on screen keyboard. Plugging in a keyboard will be useless as there is not much needed to type anyway.

I haven't tried a Dahua NVR but I've had no luck with two other NVRs when I tried a USB keyboard. The USB on NVRs seems to be generally for removable storage so they don't include keyboard functionality.

Interesting. My Hikvision 7816N-E2 is OK with a USB keyboard. Which is handy for passwords instead of the on-screen keyboard due to the erratic way the mouse clicks are handled.

I had no luck with neither my Lorex nor my CNB. I can't remember the models. My experience was based on older models though.

old post - sorry to respond.

From you list it looks like the 4xxx NVR's are more advanced than the 5xxx or 7xxx due to the 'up to 5mp' play/preview. True?
I want to play with a Dahua NVR and don't want to spend extra for a 4K unit when I only have 3 and 4mp cameras.
