does BI have any type of temporary or limited free version?

I have no problem paying for the software, but it would be nice to play around with before making the switch.

I'm using the free version of Milestone protect right now, which is okay, but if you need more than 8 cameras (im on the edge right now) its $400 a *year*. Its also a little limited in customization options...

yes, simply download the software from the website and you will get a 15 day trial. Note, that direct to disc, which is required when using high res cameras does not function in the demo. You will see much higher than normal cpu usage.
