What a super little camera! (now only $96.82. Oscar@Jimbu Security) you can't go wrong with this great little camera! 10 days from order to delivery using free epacket.

This cam could be mounted on the inside of a door by cutting a small pocket (approx.2"x3"x1" deep) in the door. The thickness is almost the same as the door. so from the outside it would look almost identical as a peephole viewer. Since it's so small I went with the simple exterior mount with a through hole for the cable.

How did you deal with the wires on the other side of the door?

for right now I just used some clear tape and routed the PoE wire over to hinge area and loosely "looped" it directly over the hinge area. Having a white door it blends in well. I'll add a small white plastic wire cover soon.
Here is a photo without the cover on the camera to show how small it is.

you know the white wires on the white door do kinda blend in. You almost don't notice the pig tail.

I like the functionality but my wife would vote that down if it was in our house.

Ok so here is the final painted instsllation.
I hollowed out the inside of the hole enought to stuff the wire and connectors inside the door (& small white plug). I use cat6 flat white and little monster white wood glue to tack cable down. repainted white door.
Also painted camera housing to blend better. Very happy with all. Canmera is awesome with IR or w/o using out door light. 20170802_164517.jpg 20170802_164525.jpg 20170802_164608.jpg 20170802_164612.jpg

Considering the install location and method that turned out really well, it is very subtle on the inside and even some what on the outside.

How is the picture quality when the Sun is least favorable ? do you have any trouble identifying people with that camera ?

Have you considered mounting a monitor on the inside of the door with that camera feed displayed on it ?

Great idea, I'd use a flexible hose (paintable) though to protect the wire near the hinge area

@smoothie After 30 + days of use now I can say I am extreamly happy with this camera at this location. Sure I would like a bit smaller on the outside but this being a Starlight gives me the picture I was wanting day or night.
My entry sits back 4' in a recessed entry area. This cam in coridor mode allows me full vertical view to within 6" of the bottom of door. The IR lights on this cam surprised me the most as they are a ring of very small (1/16"? dia.) lights that don't seam to attract insects or spiders. My front door faces due west so early evening sun does shine on it for about 30 min. a day, but I'm still able to very clearly identifiy people coming up the walk.
As for the inside monitoring, I have a 39" Seiko 4K mounted on my living room wall that allow me to see all 9 cams, very easily from my sofa, while I'm watching football. here is a night photo with IR on.

Excellent, I am glad to hear it is working so well for you. I too have a similar west facing entry. That setup is giving me ideas.

2.8 mm. It works well as my walkway is only 14' out.

What happens when you open the door and you can no longer record who is at the door, instead it's the side of your head?

@mlapaglia , lol. "IF" I open my door I no longer feel so paranoid, and don't need to record my guest anymore.
