DS-7108N-SN/P
V3.0.10, Build 141201
V5.0, Build 141127

I have the above NVR, should I upgrade the firmware?

I'm aware there are much newer versions available, but I'm mindful that the product code is not for the international version, and I don't want to end up bricking it.

I haven't checked the camera versions yet, but I think they are international, so not so much of an issue.

Would you recommend upgrading?

If so, to which version?

And could you provide a link?

Many thanks.

OK, no responses so far.. maybe I didn't provide enough information...

I've finally got everything connected up and working, although not in the final install locations.

Unfortunately my firmware appears to require NPAPI, which is no longer supported by Chrome. However, newer firmware suggests it's chrome compatible.

I have the following...

NVR
Model ............ DS-7108N-SN / P
Serial No. ....... DS-7108N-SN / P 0820150421AARR513995885WCVU
Firmware Version . V3.0.10 build 141201
Encoding Version . V5.0 build 141127

Cameras
Model ............ DS-2CD2132F-IS
Serial No. ....... DS-2CD2132F-IS 20150407CCCH510286507
.................. DS-2CD2132F-IS 20150407CCCH510286425
.................. DS-2CD2132F-IS 20150407CCCH510286476
.................. DS-2CD2132F-IS 20150408CCCH510286678
Firmware Version . V5.2.5 build 141201
Encoding Version . V5.0 build 140714

I believe that updating the camera's firmware should be without issue, as they appear to be the international versions.

However, the NVR does not appear to be the international version, and I'm worried about bricking it.

Unfortunately, the person I bought it off (an eBay seller by the name of "Whos-Looking") no longer seems to have an account. So I can't contact him for an update.

Can you advise on whether I'm safe to update with an official version of Firmware or if I need a hacked version?

However, newer firmware suggests it's chrome compatible.
I don't believe so - as far as I know, all the NVR firmware still requires the webcomponents plugin, which current Chrome does not support.
Where did you see this?

I don't know much about that specific 7108N-SN model - but on the 76xxN-Ex models it was a revision or 2 after the 3.0.10 firmware that the 'camera language mismatch' "feature" was introduced. Your cameras may be masquerading as EN with an underlying CN region, judging from their serial number having CCCH, so that may bother you if you upgrade them. Check if the camera firmware version on the label matches that in the system information.

HV's own Press Bulletin...

Your right, they're different...

Label has much Chinese on it and the following:

03 2015
DS-2CD2132F-IS 2.8mm
12V 5W MAX / PoE (802.3af)
510286476
GYKZGI
V2.5.8_141231 62
Q/BFW 004-2011

on the NVR - again much chinese

DS-7108N-2N/P
48V 100W 11
513995885
UUHVNM
GB 20815-2006

From what I'm reading - provided the SN hasn't been hacked, I actually have an EN version NVR.

And I'm leaning towards that point of view. Because, despite much chinese, it came in a proper HV red and white box, not a plain brown box (unlike the cameras). :(

Ok.

I've taken the plunge and updated the firmware on the NVR to 3.0.20.

This is where I got the firmware from:
Quick review: Hikvision DS-7108N-SN
I just upgraded my DS-7104N-SN/P to the firmware version on the China site, 3.0.20 build 161126. I upgraded through the GUI, worked flawlessly and the GUI is still in English. Encoding version is still 5.0 build 151229, is there any newer?

UPDATE: I upgraded a DS-7108N-SN/P on another site and this too worked flawlessly.

The firmware is available on the Hikvision China site but I've also attached it here for ease of use.
The reason for the upgrade was to try and be able to see if it supported Hik-Connect or Virtual Host, seeing as HiDDNS support has been discontinued.

The upgrade succeeded, and all cameras are still visible through the web browser and IVMS 4200.

Also, the NVR connects to my phone with IVMS 4500 - But only on the home WiFi!

On looking through the networking options, I've now lost all the alternative DDNS choices and can only select the now defunct HiDDNS.

There is no option for virtual host, and the option for telnet has vanished.

I then noticed an option for virtual platform, I don't know if this was available in 3.0.10.

Researching this brought up EZVIZ...

So I made sure virtual platform was online.

I double checked the IP of the NVR

Address 192.168.10.100
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.10.10 (router IP)
DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I install EZVIZ on my laptop, run the scan and it picks up the NVR...

But everyone I click on it to add it I get the message:

device is not connected to the service, please try again
Is this because I'm in Europe and the firmware is Chinese (despite displaying in English)

Like most, I don't have a static IP.

What is the best way to be able to view these cameras/NVR remotely.
