Engineered Burial (re. Ethernet cable specs)?

A couple other threads got me looking at some Ethernet cable to one day string out to the garage. The cable of topic is Belden OSP6U. In the specs it says suitable for "Engineered Burial".

What the heck is Engineered Burial vs. just plain old burial?

For the record, from Belden Technical Support, what that means is -

"This means that it is not recognized by UL for direct burial. It is only recognized or recommended by our engineers that it can be a cable for direct burial."
