Hope I did this right off the start.
1.) Snagged this off eBay today for under $200. I knew getting an i7-4770 and a 2 x 3.5" and 2 x 2.5" bays are the most important aspect.
  • Dell Optiplex 9020 MT
  • Intel I7-4770 @ 3.4 Ghz CPU
  • 500 GB HD
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Win 10 Pro 64 bit
  • DVD-RW optical drive
  • Win 7 COA
  • A/C cord included
  • PC only, no keyboard or mouse.
Will probably ditch out the 500GB HD and swap to a $20 120GB SSD (M.2)...depending on how difficult it is to migrate windows 10 from 1 hard drive to another.

2.) Has been awhile since figuring out computer specs (I am turning 50 and online gaming PC building is starting to wane). What concerns me is this PC says only can handle upto 2TB hard drive. Starting out, I believe I'll go for 4 IPC-HDW5231R-Z outdoor use so I can learn and experience in person the parameters I've never dabbled with before: focal, IR flare, wasted pixels, setting up Blue Iris, etc. Eventually, I'll know I will migrate up to larger capacity.

3.) I'll be snagging 4 x Samsung 128GB EVO Plus Class 10 Micro SDXC for local cam storage.

4.) For POE switch, I'll try out a cheap unmanaged switch to get started since only 4 cams: TP-Link 5 port Gigabit POE Switch 4 port 56 watts. Down the road, probably will migrate to 8 or 16 POE managed switch with built in fans.

5.) will also investigate adding a 2nd NIC for this mysterious yet more security aspect of a 2nd subnet.

6.) already have a LInksys AC1700 router that I believe can do OpenVPN so remote viewing and routing should be ok for time being. May go for Ubiquiti or such later.

7.) all this will be mounted in a secured 24u or 48u lockable cabinet in the garage.

How is this for a beginner intro to a Blue Iris PC?
