I have 20+ Dahua cameras on a different VLAN subnet (very much locked down) from my Home Assistant NUC. Less outbound internet traffic from my camera network, the better. For the longest time, I just synchronized all cameras to the local PC. Needless to say, come cameras where seconds if not minutes off month & months later (or an hour off because I forgot to set up the Daylight Savings Time in the camera GUI).
I wanted a local NTP server the cameras can talk to without heading out to the internet. Considered this...that...this...that... then finally decided to use my HA NUC as a time server using Chrony add-on as the NTP server for all of my network. It is always running 24/7 without crashing or being turned off. Considered going the Windows PC route as time server, but naw.
Just wanted to toss it out there about setting up a local NTP server for all your cameras. Is nice for all time stamps to be exactly the same!
