The irony is there's probably a loop detector that would have opened the gate automatically (to exit) had they let it close a bit more and driven more carefully and slowly.

When I was a kid the car bumper would have ripped that gate off.
I had a 1958 ford galaxy circa 1969. I was rear ended at a stop light by a circa 1968 buick. Guess which one had considerable damage and which one didn't have any. :)

I think the gate had already changed directions (either by loop or safety switch) by the time they caught their bumper.
