Lots of folks around here with a wide range of knowledge and experience. There are a variety of sub-forums with specific areas of interest. Find a few that interest you and keep an eye on them. You will learn. When you have a question, do some searches to see if it has already been answered. If not, I've seldom seen a well thought out question not to receive thoughtful input.
If you came here because of an interest in cameras for your home, you made a wise choice to visit this forum. I mainly follow the Blue Iris forums since that is the platform I use but there are others to explore.

I am looking at Hikvision cameras for my home and on reading up will most likely go with connection to a pc running Blueiris
I already have a 50 port CISCO poe switch which runs my house anyway so seems like the best way
Very keen to read up, get suggestions on camera placement and type (bullet,dome) and focal length
Also keen to find out best specs for Blueiris pc.

. If you spend some time searching as @logbuilder has suggested you do, you'll find that domes unless used inside are not recommended for use outdoors.
