Greetings
Im Guilty of lurking this forum for years, homing in on all things Digital.
Done a few deals with members here over the years also.

40+ years Electronics / Instrumentation.
Attic Rat, wire pullin fool.
Pelco / Bosch were the main line.
Retired from the days of dealing with company Sales / Tech / Engineers.
Good to be RETIRED!

Analog has ruled long enough!

Cctv, has been a long standing hobby besides a part time living.
Currently running Pelco 8100/16 and it is tired, Analogs fading, channels dropout on the DVR,
Shopping / Gearing up for the Re-Install in my home.
Out with the Simeise TwinAxial/BNC(s) and in with the Cat6.

New Hikvision 16 is on the bench here, waiting on a few Cams to come in.
IP Cam test gear i picked up on the Bay last year, this Kmoon model IPC8600<Pic, has saved the day many times.
Cat6 is in and waiting for install <Pic

I'll be chiming in on select subject matter in the days to follow-----Good Day

:welcome:
My standard welcome to the forum message.

Please read the cliff notes and other items in the wiki. The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Read How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) in the wiki also.

Quick start
1) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras or ICPT Night eye cameras (https://store.ipcamtalk.com/) if you need good low light cameras.
2) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
3) Do not use wifi cameras.
4) Do not use cloud storage
5) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
6) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
7) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
8) Do not use reolink, ring, nest cameras (they are junk)
9) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
10) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)

Read, study, plan before spending money ..... plan plan plan

Yank, Thank You
Quick read through this little list here reminded me of life before Retirement!
Likely my second year into installs some 30+ years ago, i lived for a "Better Way To Do It".
I Retired couple years back, good time to watch the Digital age evolve, and it's getting there.
